| Is Waiting a Form of Worship? |
|
| |
27:14 Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yea, wait for the LORD! Waiting is not much fun. In fact, this verse actually suggests that it is indeed difficult to do. From what this verse suggests, it seems it takes a great deal of strength to wait upon the Lord. How does one find this strength? Not in merely waiting for circumstances to pan out or by waiting for things to happen according the way we hope or imagine. No, instead, strength is found in submitting to the perfect will of God unfolding in the perfect timing of God. Strength is found in trusting the Lord, even while what we believe is yet to come cannot be seen. Strength is found in aligning our plans and hopes with the plans and hopes God has for us. Strength is found in obeying the command to wait while being faithful to what is before us even now, without forsaking the vision God has placed in our hearts. Our hearts find courage in knowing that God has plans of hope and a future for us. Our hearts take courage in knowing that God loves each and every one of us and that He is working on our behalf to turn our broken and shattered lives into a beautiful masterpiece revealing the glory and design of a wonderfully, masterful Artist. Courage and strength are found when we admit our weakness and our reliance upon One who is greater and stronger than us. Waiting in, and of, itself, is truly an act of worship. It is wholeheartedly acknowledging and surrending to God out of a belief that He is the One who was, is, and always will be, even to the end of time. Although waiting is difficult and sometimes downright painful, we can have faith and be assured that not only is God at work on the vision itself, but He is also at work on our pathway to the vision, which usually includes preparing our hearts for it. When He has accomplished the fruit of patience, endurance, and perseverance through our worshipful waiting, we can be assured that something beautiful is just around the bend. |

| Yes let patience have it's perfect work that we might be perfect and complete lacking nothing. In the words of the great Theologian Tom Petty: The waiting is the hardest part. :) |

PeaNuT2- I have a plaque hanging in my trailer that reads: "God, grant me patience... and give it to me now!" It's true, not many of us like to wait, whether it be waiting in lines, waiting on the phone on hold, waiting for the watched pot to boil, etc. It's such a regular part of life although it is so difficult for us to do. |

| Brother Todd- That is so true! It seems we usually lack in patience more than we lack in what we are waiting for... |

this one gets a giant AMEN from me... This is one of the hardest things for me, and lately, little by little, God is granting me the patience, and totally gracing me out in this area of my life... Although, I still struggle with my impatience sometimes, I'm continually reminding myself that God's timing is perfect, and taking things into my own hands would only hinder God's will in my life! I SO needed this today... it's nice to be reminded!
P.S. I'm working on another song, and I really want to show it to you! (all I have is a chorus so far, but I'm super excited about it)... I'm pretty sure we need to start hanging out more often anyways... plus, I'm pretty sure I could use a sister in Christ for venting purposes! :)
love you, and thank you for this amazing post!!! |

Jenni- So true, what you said about how we can actually hinder what God is trying to do by taking things into our own hands... just think about what happened to Abraham and Sarah when they were impatient for God's promise. They ended up with an Ishmael! However, God gave them grace and continued to be faithful on His end of the promise. I am so thankful that even while we are faithless, God ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS remains faithful and full of grace and mercy. We definitely serve an amazing God! I would love to hear your new song and work on it with you! You know you are always welcome to come by anytime... just give me a call, girl! :-) You can always swing by on your day off or on Sundays or anytime you've got some free time. I'm always here for you as a listening ear whenever you need it. Love you too sister! |

| Patrick- thanks for stopping by and sharing your perception! I agree there are times when we sit too long on something God has told us to do, which is borderline disobedience, however that is not the kind of waiting I was referring to in this particular blog. The kind of waiting I was referring to is when God has given us a vision or promise of some kind and we must wait for it to come to pass. In the meanwhile, or the waiting, there are times when hope seems lost, doubt and fear creep in, or other things happen that discourage us from believing in what God has promised. It is in those times that we can choose to have an attitude of worship by not giving in to any of the aforementioned schemes of the enemy and to instead remain focused and steadfast on God. |
