WARNING: I've been told I give away too much of the plot in this review. If you don't want to know, please don't read. (Just star and mosey on. lol)
The modern idea of easily disposable marriage is challenged by the new movie Fireproof. It is about a couple on the brink of divorce. The husband is a fireman and the wife is a publicist for a hospital and both are so filled with hurt and hostility that they are ready to throw away their marriage.
The man's father challenges him to "Love Dare", a 40-day program to show specific acts of self-sacrificing love to your spouse each day. He reluctantly accepts the challenge. After a few days of being shown kindness, the wife believes that he is "buttering her up for divorce" so she files ahead of him.
The man is ready to quit the challenge, but his father holds him to it. After twenty days the wife is still hostile and resistant and is even considering an affair with a doctor. The man in desperation asks God to help him keep going. He admits that he has only been going through the motions. From then on he puts his heart into showing loving service to his wife.
After the 40 days he keeps on going. At one point he takes $23,000 that he has been saving for a boat and secretly buys health care equipment for his mother-in-law who is recovering from a stroke.
When the wife finally discovers what he has done, she is overcome with emotion by the love he has shown her and her walls collaspe. Self-sacrificing love saved their marriage and joined their hearts into one.
The story also includes some very good humor and some heart-racing scenes of firefighting. This is a wonderful movie and I highly recommend it. Go see Fireproof soon. |

Sounds like a good movie. I'm going through a divorce we did our counseling and it's over for us but it sounds like a program I like to tell our marriage ministry about. This "Love Dare" forty day program is it real or just sometime in the movie? Thank You for sharing.

Originally I had my doubts about this movie..but I decided on a whim to go see it with my sister..and I was amazed!!..it was really good..the only drawback I would say..is that maybe the editing wasnt that great...but the story and the actors..were just incredible!..I loved it..and partially because of that movie a friend of mine decided to become a fireman. =)

I have not been able to the movie yet but.... I do know that the guy who did the movie Kirk Cameron (i don't know if I spelled the name right) was on the T.V. show Family Ties and he got saved 2 years into the program- God obviosly changed his life in a powerful way and I believe he is now a pastor as well... Dr. Dobson did an interview with him about the movie and himself and I am sure you can look it up on line and hear it.

The Baptist Church that produced this movie has really used this as an outreach. Facing the Giants, and Flywheel are excellent movies with a salvation message in them. Who said they can't produce movies without cussing and nudity?Praise God for believers that are feed up with Nastywood.
