Wow!   Brother Todd.. I felt like... it was almost saying that we couldnt or rather wouldnt  go as far or be as strong if we could see exactly where God was taking us , I mean it's not that we dont know where He's taking us, but we dont know whats coming up nxt, or how far we have to go, we dont know what tomorrow will bring, becasue we cant see that far and if we did, would we go or would we stop?  But... also... whether we can see whats coming or not... if we dont hear God or listen to His voice it's easier to give up, the young man wanted to give up but the coach was yelling so loud you couldnt miss hearing him.  I want to hear God that way... with all my heart I want to hear His voice just as loud.

I have to admit though I would have liked to see the coach help the young man back up to his feet and give him a hug after he was done.  Because I know that happens with God, I've felt it myself many times.  Thank you so much for sharing this clip... it has blessed my heart and reminded me of who I should be listening to.

Grace and peace to you...

I really enjoyed the movie too Todd. We all have or have had giants in our lives that we must face and conquer and they shall fall down. David conquered Goliath with just a smooth stone because he believed in the GOD whom he served! The VICTORY IS OURS AND WE KNOW THAT WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST!

GOD CARRYING MY SINS, I NEVER REALLY SAW THE ACTORS BECAUSE MY MIND WENT STRAIGHT TO JESUS GOING THE WHOLE FIFTY PLUS FOR ME....TODD IT BROUGHT ME TO TEARS MAN! I WILL HAVE TO WATCH THAT FILM NOW BUDDY, LOVE STU!

I gotta tell you, I watched it this morning before leaving for work and it brought me to tears also. You see, I had a passion for football way back in my early years, and I was pretty good. But needless to say I fell in with the wrong crowd and the hope I once had in that area was permanently deferred.

Nonetheless, here's what I get, for now:

While your enemy seems overwhelming
And the future cannot be seen
Keep striving for the finish line
Keep chasing down your dream

Someone out there needs you
Within you is no lack
Reach that goal, save your soul and
Get that monkey off your back

Great Inspiration Todd, thank you!

I loved that movie Todd. Mainly b/c I love football, and it was awesome to see faith extended to the gridiron. I can't watch clips at work, but perhaps I can stop back this evening. A star for you though, just for starting yet another great conversation!

TKO:  Don't quit!  Don't you quit on me!  Keep on pushing!  Galatians 6:9  Don't grow weary in well doing for in due season you will reap if you don't faint.  In other words you will see results if you don't quit.  So many of us don't realize how close to victory we are so we quit.
Yes, we are capable of so much more than what we actually do!  Why is that?  Why do settle?  Why won't we  push ourselves?

"The abortion of your potential is the death of your future".

That little quote has been posted on a billboard for the past week and I wrote it down for my grandkids.  I am going to put it on a borad or something and post it where they can see it everyday.

Jesus gave the ultimate gift for us and he was tempted in so many different ways.  He could have easily given up on our stubborn, guilty, awful souls, but he didn't.  "Take my yoke, it is easy", he said.  We will be tested, twisted, thrown into pitfalls, yet we have to keep going.  If we don't, what is the point of living?  If we don't give as Jesus did, why be here?  We have to pull together, love one another, care about each other, suffer and cry with each other to make life worthwhile.

I cried Brother Todd because this hit me like a rock.  Yes, we suffer, but not like my Savior.  We can make it, JUST DON'T GIVE UP.

Robin:  It is a faith walk isn't it?  We walk by faith and not by sight.  I too have often wondered that if God were to show me ahead of time where I would be and what I would have to have gone through to get there I don't think I would have been as willing to go.

Also, you pretty much said something my wife did, which promted me to leave this video clip up for discussion because I was going to take something and run with it, but she told me that the coach was like the Holy Spirit always urging us to keep going and not to quit.  Telling us only 30 more only 10 more give me 5 more!  You can do it.  I know it hurts, I know it burns but you can do it!  Robin we can do all things through Christ that strengthen us!  Phillipians 4:13

Jan:  That is right!  You just quoted my favorite/life verse  Romans 8:37  Nay in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

It is amazing what we can accomplish if we will just trust God and obey God along the way!

Stu:  That is why I am so glad we offered opinions on this, because my mind didn't even go there, but your's did and what a wonderful illustration!  Jesus carried the cross of our shame through the via dela rosa.  The weight of our sin He carried for us.  I like that Stu...he not only went the distance for me the 50 but He did the extra for everyone else!  What a wonderful Savior we serve.  Isaiah 53:4  Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows.... Awesome Stu

Ok, I'm crying at 8:30 in the morn. This was so me, ya know the story of Ken and me getting back together. Just like in this, it was "blind faith" I had to go on, I cried out that "it hurt"....but He walked along beside me every step of the way, pressing me on to the goal He had set for me. You see I thought the goal was different too.....but He took me much further....His goal in this was Ken's salvation.....
What I noted in this so well, was every step he took with him, even getting down and crawling along side of him, and even in yelling to press on, there was compassion in his face....he hurt with him.....but kept him going.
When we carry a heavy load of burdens, He's right with us, every step we take, every time we cry out.....step out in blind faith, press on to the goal....He's right with us!

Michael:  I think many of us have had dreams that were broken and shattered.  Hope deferred makes the heart sick.  But, the lessons you learned from football have stayed with you all your life and even propel you now into being a champion at life.   If anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules.  But now in your Christian walk  you are becoming a champion because you are focused and single-minded on pleasing Jesus Christ.  Love the poem....we are capable of greatness if we will only push ourselves towards it!

Beauty for Ashes:  Never give up...I think of Phillipians 3:12 "But, I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me."  In other words Jesus took hold of me with His great love merecy and salvation now I pursue Him and I am not going to let go of it until I reach the endzone.  It may hurt, it may burn, I may be tired, but I will press on until I see my savior face to face! Excellent insight.

Mary:  Those are some great comments!  I love the quote..Extremely sobering!  We limit our future by killing our present.  Jesus gave His all for us what can we give Him?  We give Him our all too!  That was a great point you brought out...we do it together...Galatians 6:2  Carry each other's burdens, and in this way yo uwill fufill the law of Christ."  We are to encourage on another and build each other up because life is tough and the Christian walk is tough but we are over-comers!

Cindy we are never alone!  We always have the company of our Savior through the Holy Spirit.  This verse came to mind as you shared your comment:  "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize withour weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are-yet was without sin." Hebrews 4:15  God knows what we go through because He went through it just like the coach.  He knew what it was like to push himself therefore he had the right to push  his player.

GoJolly:  "Jeus told us fear not for I have overcome the world"  we don't need to look around us and see the obstacles or the circumstances but just keep pressing forward towards the upward call in Christ Jesus.   Praise be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!

Bro Todd: and the verse following says: Let us therefore draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of need. Emphasis is mine :) What an assurance those two verses are!!!!!!!!!!!
In simple words, He's already gone through it, feels for us, so let's have confidence in the unmerited favor so we can know his mercy and see His unmerited favor when the burden is heavy.

Thanks CIndy!  Did you know that grace does not just mean unmerrited favor?  It also means God's strength and power.  My Grace is suffiencent for you meaning my power is sufficient for you.  In your weakness I am made strong.  Great comment and thanks for sharing...I love that passage of Hebrews.

Terry:  You can make it....you can do it!  If God is for you who can be against you?  You are more than a conqueror through Him that loved you!

Ken:  You know I feel that way too.  Whatever I go through it is nothing compared to what He went through for me.

Sister Rhonda:  I can run through a troop and I can jump over a wall!  Let's do it...Let's give Him our very best like the coach said.!  I can't get enough of motivation like this!

I love this movie, and this is my favorite scene from it. What I get is this: I am the one crawling, whining and complaining, "I can't," or "It hurts," and God is telling me to push through, keep on going, don't give up. What's that saying by Mother Teresa? I know God won't give me more than I can handle, I just wish He didn't trust me so much? God knows what we are capable of, and He won't give us more than we can take, but He will give us what we need to become all He wants us to become!

2 Corinthians 1:8-10
For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.

2 Corinthians 4:6-11
For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

Romans 15:18
For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to bring the Gentiles to obedience—by word and deed

In the natural we can all do more than we think we can; in the natural we can be inspired by good leaders; but we have been called to a life that cannot be explained in terms of what we can accomplish for the Lord, but to a life that cannot be explained except in terms of what Christ accomplishes through us for himself.  We are delivered over to death [e.g. weakness] so that we learn that Christ, who is our life, will make his power perfect in our weaknesses...not in our strengths.  We are then left boasting in the Lord, not in our determination, our willpower, out commitment, or our accomplishments.

Best regards,
Craig

Thank you Brother Todd for responding back to me directly and to others. This is a wonderful way to fellowship and study God's word.

I look forward to the following:

Craig: Most excellent Comment! "we have been called to a life that cannot be explained in terms of what we can accomplish for the Lord, but to a life that cannot be explained except in terms of what Christ accomplishes through us for himself." In our weakness He is made strong. If we could do it in ourselves then it is the flesh...it is not by might not by power but by His Spirit says the Lord of Hosts. The flesh profits nothings and all our works of flesh will be tried to see if they are wood hay or stuble...but Praise God for the Holy Spirit who is working in us and through us to accomplish His will. May be we submissive and obedient so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. Thanks for such a wonderful comment!

GoJolly: I too look forward to the comments to my comments that I post. It is a wonderful way to study and to learn and to fellowship. I look forward to that day when we shall expeirence all that the Lord has for us! For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glories that shall be revealed in us.

Whoa. First of all, I don't like football. Never did. Never will. And I don't watch sports movies.  But this is sooooo beyond "sports." Beautifully, beautifully done. I was crying through the coach's message at the end of the scene, but what the other football player said was the icing on the cake (if you'll excuse the cliche). Sometimes you've got to wonder if even God underestimates what we can do.

This was the most inspiring scene of the movie, and one that I've recalled several times since watching it.  It speaks to me of the limits we put on ourselves.  We have faith that we can achieve only what we have achieved before, when our limits are actually far beyond where we ever take them.  On a physical level, I see this in my running.  If I feel like quitting after one mile, I can override that temptation, because I know I am capable of going much farther.  If I know I've gone as far as normal, however, I succumb to my tiredness and stop. More importantly, on a spiritual level, how short are we falling when we stop at our own known abilities, despite the promise that we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength.  What would He do through us if we did not limit Him?!

Kathy:  I am so happy to see you blogging again.  I think you have hit on something very important.  In all of us their is unlimited potential.  However we have to mine/work/dig up that potential.  We need to study to show ourselves approved unto God, we need to stir up the gifting that is within us.  We have to work out our salvation etc...But so many of us are lazy and will only do what we need to do in order to get by.  However, if we will dig down deep and press on past the pain, past the urge to quit, past the mind and it's limits it sets on us, it is amazing what God can do in  us and through us!  Thank you for such  valuable insight!
