| A Bible In The Paper? |
|
| |
3:16 All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, The International Bible Society paid 11 newspapers to distribute Bibles in their Sunday edition. Some people complained and press reports said their was an "outcry" against it in Fort Worth, Texas.
Here are some possible reactions to a small New Testament packaged with the Sunday paper: “Hey, Honey, there’s a Bible with our paper this morning.”
1) “That’s nice, Dear.”
2) “A what?”
3) “Maybe we can send it to Aunt Jane for Christmas.”
4) “Really? Let me see it.”
5) “What else is new?”
6) “That’s great. I’ve been needing a new pocket New Testament.”
7) “What’s a Bible?”
8) “What will those religious freaks think of next?”
9) “Keep that thing away from me!”
10) “Do you have any idea how blatantly offensive this boneheaded idea is to the thinking public?” This was the actual response of a Fort Worth reader after The Fort Worth Star Telegram announced it would deliver more than 200,000 New Testaments with the paper on the last Sunday of the year.
The Associated press says: “After the outcry, the (Fort Worth) paper told subscribers they could opt out of the delivered Bibles.” Whew! That was a close call. Somebody almost got a Bible they didn’t want!
So what is wrong with the International Bible Society spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to distribute Bibles with newspapers? Isn’t their money any good? Everything else is advertised and/or distributed with newspapers. Why not Bibles?

I wonder if I can pay for a one-liner in the classifieds?
"God Bless you."
or even better
"Jesus loves you." |

| Like the Minister of poetry said its just a sign of the times. There is nothing bad or offensive. It all about how the lord loves us so much that he sent his only son to die on the cross for us so we would have the oppertunity to be free and not pay for our sins with our lives. But like anything else in America its a personal choice. Our country has turned their backs on the lord. Thats why we are paying right now. Brothers and sisters we are the stop gap Lets keep praying that this will turn around |

| Dan: Getting the Word into people's hands is powerful. I think it may be more effective than putting preaching on TV. |

That must have crushed God's heart...being rejected like that. "I don't want a BIble!" means, "I don't want God!." |

Nice one, Steve! People understand getting something for free, but I think they sometimes don't get the concept of a gift. Good idea, Phyllis. Messages like those actually appeared in a newspaper I worked for. |
