| The Game's Not Over |

My Cavs are now down 2-0 against the Pistons in the Eastern Conference finals. Last night was a sad display. With a few seconds left on the clock, LeBron drives to the basket and misses - he then obsesses about not getting the foul called. Coach Mike Brown goes off on a yelling fit. Larry Hughes gets the rebound and misses a wide-open 7-foot jump shot. Detroit ends up getting thebound with about 3 seconds left. Coach Brown is on the court yelling, gets a technical foul and 4 of the 5 Cavs on the floor head over sad and mad and join the verbal debate about not calling the foul for LeBron. The problem? The Cavs were down by 1-point and there were 3 seconds left on the clock. Only Donyell Marshall kept playing the game and fouled the Detroit player in a desperate hope to get the ball back. Had Coach Brown not had his fit and had the other 4 players stayed with the game, the Cavs migt have still had a chance to win.
The point? For us Christians, the game is not over yet, but we act as though it is.
4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. Every day, 150,000 people die around the world. If statistics are correct, about 75-80% of them are dying without Christ and being ushered into eternal hell. What is the Church up to? Oh, we like to complain about whether we sing hymns or choruses. We argue about the color of carpet and paint for the walls. We get worked up over the person who sat in our pew. We are too busy being hurt when someone says something rude to us. We spend hours at each others' throats over vs. NIV.
What have we done in the last 7 days to reach a lost world for Jesus? Better yet, what will we do in the next 7 days to reach lost sinners with the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ? Let's not finish the game with time still on the clock! |
