The reading for day 52 was Isaiah 42:1-52:15
The biggest theme in this passage is that God is the one and Only God. These passages leave no room for pluralism in a Christian's life. 42:8 I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.
He says over and over again that He is the only one who has been there from the beginning and the one who created everything. He knows the end from the beginning, and He has planned it all.
42:19 Who [is] blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger [that] I sent? who [is] blind as [he that is] perfect, and blind as the LORD'S servant?
Can anyone tell me what this means? I'm really not sure...
Have you ever noticed that every time God saves His people someone dies? 43:4 Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. How does this fit with our God is love theology? Does God love everyone equally as we like to think? If so, why would He do something that seems so opposite to that? I'm interested to hear what you have to say.
God proclaims Himself as sovereign throughout the book of Isaiah. He says it over and over again. Do you think He wants us to remember? He also makes sure that we know that He is the only savior, rebuking pluralists then and now.
46:3 Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne [by me] from the belly, which are carried from the womb: 46:4 And [even] to [your] old age I [am] he; and [even] to hoar hairs will I carry [you]: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver [you].
Wow...how much more confidence can a people have than when God says He is going to do something for them? Especially since He puts the whole responsibility on Himself. They didn't have to meet any requirements...God did it because He wanted to. Amazing.
48:11 For mine own sake, [even] for mine own sake, will I do [it]: for how should [my name] be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
