Tonight as I was reading Psalm 18, I found myself praising God with a song that first ministered to me in 1980 when I sang it with my college's Intervarsity Christian Fellowship:
What a comfort to know the Lord lives! With Him as my Rock, there is nothing to fear! What can take me from His presence? Who can exalt himself above God's Sovereignty?
I will not fear the economy. I will not fear losing my job or my savings. I will not fear political outcomes. I will not fear failed health, even to death. For God is alive and steadfast. God is solid and immovable. And all earthly cares lose their significance when we are lost in praising Him!
18:46 The LORD liveth; and blessed [be] my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.
That song takes me back! The Lord liveth and blessed be my rock, blessed be my savior! May the God of my salvation be exalted. Just think Kathy that used to be contemporary cutting edge praise and worship!
Todd, you're showing our age! Cutting edge it was!
Amen, Voice. When we are lost in Him, there's no guarantee our earthly fears won't come to fruition, but there's a guarantee our earthly concerns are not what really matters!
There's a great chorus from vv. 7, 10 ("The law of the Lord is perfect . . . More to be desired are they than gold . . .") also, but I didn't find it on GodTube or YouTube.
It looks like I'm going to be singing and worshiping all through my reading of the Psalms! Psalm 24: 3-4 ("Who shall ascend to the hill of the Lord? . . .") and Psalm 25:1-2 (Unto Thee O Lord do I lift up my soul . . .Let me not be shamed. Let not mine enemies triumph over me.") Does anyone have a link to any of these choruses, or maybe have them in your personal playlist?! Wouldn't be be fun to have a gathering just to worship through Psalm choruses!
Oh, Dennis, you stumped me! Other than what we sang in church (mostly hymns, and a few "Pass it On" type songs) my "Jesus music" doesn't go back much further than about 1980. I do recognize a few of the names, however: David Meece, DeGarmo and Key . . . Thanks for taking us back!!
I'm still singing though the Psalms. Ps. 34:3 "Oh magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!" Youtube had several versions of this, but I didn't find the version I'm familiar with.
Still enjoying the Psalms! Chapter 47: Clap your hands, all the people . . . What a fun chorus! And then 51:10-12! Along with Ps. 42:1, my favorite of all Psalm . Worship with me to Keith Green's version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwUroyJLg9A For me, it's impossible to listen to this one without falling before the Father in worship!
I'm still singing through the Psalms! Psalm 57 "Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let Thy Glory Be Over All the Earth!" Psalm 68:1: "Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered." Psalm 91:5-7: "I will not fear before the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day . . . though a thousand men may fall at your side . . ." Psalm 100: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands! Serve the Lord with gladness! come into His presence with singing! Kniow ye that the Lord is God! It is he that made us . . . we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with Thanksgiving and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him and bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures for ever, and his faithfulness to all generations." And Psalm 103: Bless the Lord, O My Soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbHV2TYGVso
