| Max Lucado's Latest Book Offers Hope |
|
| |
You know I'm on Summer break when I actually start and finish a book in two days (or maybe when I even finish a book at all)! Max Lucado's new release, Every Day Deserves a Chance, is a quick easy read and a sure pick-me-up for anyone who is feeling the gravity of life.
In typical Lucado style, this book inspires its readers to focus on the positive and to persevere through the inevitable storms of life. Sprinkled throughout with real-life stories, it inspires us with practical lessons of how to make the most of every day we are given, even the most difficult ones when we aren't even sure we can survive.
Max Lucado writes with sensitivity, in simple theology that is easily understandable for all. A good book for both teenagers and adults, it can be read in one sitting, or as a devotional a few paragraphs at a time, or as a group study, with discussion questions for each chapter at the end of the book.
If you are thinking that what you are facing in life is far greater than anything a book could address, this book might be worth the few hours it takes to read it. It will not solve all of life's struggles, but if you are lying motionless on the floor, it may help you to sit up. Whether you are feeling slightly frustrated with life or totally incapacitated under its weight, this is a pertinent book, with practical application to all of life's situations, and after you read it, life will feel a little brighter.
Thomas Nelson Publishers, 2007 Available from Jacob's Well for 16.49 (retail 19.99)
118:24 This is the day which the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Sword, glad to share a plug, and you are welcome to use my review! Be sure to let us know your thoughts on the book! Thanks, Sue! I know what you mean. Blogs can be addictive! Recon, do you think Lucado's writing maybe appeals more to women, or do you just personally prefer deeper theological discussion? |

Would this be a good book for my friend whose husband died about 6 weeks ago? She is really having a hard time. I want to help her, but I don't know how. Wendy |

| Hi Wendy. I prayed about your question, and I think this could be a helpful book. It's hard to say, as everyone grieves so differently, but it deals with issues of every intensity. I think it could make a difference, and if she's not quite ready for it yet, she could have it for later. I will pray again for your friend. |

Kathy, I'm sure it is both. Yes, Lucado I think does write for the female and feminized male, or at least maybe that's it. And, yes, I do prefer meat and can't have a diet based upon corn syrup...after all, look at all the increasing amount of diabetics. Are we creating diabetic Christians spiritually? |

Recon, as I'm sure you would agree, spiritual "meat" is more than hard doctrines. Spiritual maturity involves both head and heart, and listening with the heart is not a sign of weakness or inferiority, even in men. I agree with you (if I understand you correctly) that Christians should not be satisfied with only heartfelt spirituality. Nor should Christians with much head knowledge be satisfied with that. Spiritual maturity demands both. Nonetheless, I can respect your preference for other types of reading material. I am generally with you on that, but this book was a gift from a most dear friend, and I enjoyed the change of pace. Grace to you, my brother.
Thanks for your comment, Nancy! If you read this one, please come back and tell us what you think! |

| Kathy, as with most of Max's books this one is a pleasant read that makes you laugh, cry, and contemplate life. He is certainly one of my favorite authors and this book didn't let me down. |

Thanks for sharing your impression, Voice!
Tropical, I don't follow Lucado and rarely read his works, but I'm not aware of what you're referencing. I know, in our internet age, there are accusations floating around about just about anybody, many of which are unfounded. Is he publishing unChristian ideas, or merely trying to tap a wider audience to reach those who need to hear the Gospel? Can you expound on this, so we readers can assess it intelligently? I know there are many writings we Christians have adopted that are written by New Age/Unitarian writers, like the Chicken Soup for the Soul books . . . |

| I read your where is God when I'm Hurting Blog yesterday and was lead here...I was given this book earlier this year...but never took the time to read it...after reading it today I can say this is true: It will not solve all of life's struggles, but if you are lying motionless on the floor, it may help you to sit up. Thank you Kathy for pointing me to it...and I do recommend it...many blessings to you! |

| LaTonya, sometimes we set things aside, only to realize when we pick it up much later, that it's the exact perfect time! Thank you for adding your recommendation! *hug* |
