I love Max Lucado, but have not read this one.  I will have to check it out.  Thanks!

I usually like Max Lucado, but haven't read this one yet.  I just finished a good one, too - I will post about it soon.

Thanks for commenting, Deb and Bestemor.  If you read the book, come back and share your thoughts about it.  Recon, I can relate.  I start a lot more books than I finish!  Carpe diem!

I just picked it up yesterday. I love Max!  Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the book (...and for the plug for Jacob's Well ;-) ).  Kathy, would you mind if I posted your review in our store next to the book?

No, Kathy, I actually finish nearly all books I start. I just can't finish one of his. Too syrupy for me, no thanks! To many platitudes!

Sword, glad to share a plug, and you are welcome to use my review!  Be sure to let us know your thoughts on the book!  Thanks, Sue!  I know what you mean.  Blogs can be addictive!  Recon, do you think Lucado's writing maybe appeals more to women, or do you just personally prefer deeper theological discussion?

Would this be a good book for my friend whose husband died about 6 weeks ago?  She is really having a hard time.  I want to help her, but I don't know how.

Hi Wendy.  I prayed about your question, and I think this could be a helpful book.  It's hard to say, as everyone grieves so differently, but it deals with issues of every intensity.  I think it could make a difference, and if she's not quite ready for it yet, she could have it for later.  I will pray again for your friend.

Kathy,

I'm sure it is both. Yes, Lucado I think does write for the female and feminized male, or at least maybe that's it. And, yes, I do prefer meat and can't have a diet based upon corn syrup...after all, look at all the increasing amount of diabetics. Are we creating diabetic Christians spiritually?

Recon, as I'm sure you would agree, spiritual "meat" is more than hard doctrines.  Spiritual maturity involves both head and heart, and listening with the heart is not a sign of weakness or inferiority, even in men.  I agree with you (if I understand you correctly) that Christians should not be satisfied with only heartfelt spirituality.  Nor should Christians with much head knowledge be satisfied with that.  Spiritual maturity demands both.   Nonetheless, I can respect your preference for other types of reading material.  I am generally with you on that, but this book was a gift from a most dear friend, and I enjoyed the change of pace.  Grace to you, my brother.

Thanks for your comment, Nancy!  If you read this one, please come back and tell us what you think!

Kathy, as with most of Max's books this one is a pleasant read that makes you laugh, cry, and contemplate life. He is certainly one of my favorite authors and this book didn't let me down.

Thanks for sharing your impression, Voice!

Tropical, I don't follow Lucado and rarely read his works, but I'm not aware of what you're referencing.  I know, in our internet age, there are accusations floating around about just about anybody, many of which are unfounded.  Is he publishing unChristian ideas, or merely trying to tap a wider audience to reach those who need to hear the Gospel?  Can you expound on this, so we readers can assess it intelligently?  I know there are many writings we Christians have adopted that are written by New Age/Unitarian writers, like the Chicken Soup for the Soul books . . .
