| Don't Let Temptation Triumph |
|

10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it]. 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. Have you ever had an unwanted, bad thought just pop into your mind and try to seduce or compel you into a negative or self-destructive action? That is a common and frequent human experience that we call temptation.
Where do unwanted, tempting thoughts come from? If you don’t want a thought in your mind, then that thought obviously isn’t from you. So where is it coming from?
If you are not intentionally thinking negative or self-destructive thoughts; if instead you are resisting them and trying to get them out of your head; where are those thoughts coming from? They must be from some kind of enemy that wants to harm you.
Our personal human experience indicates that there are evil forces or personalities at work in our mind. When we surrender to them we end up acting out painful and destructive behaviors.
We often decide to resist those forces, and when we do we find we are in for a fierce fight. It can be extremely tormenting. Many times we give up and obey the negative forces just to get some relief from the struggle.
However, human beings can master and overcome the evil forces that attack their minds. It takes great training, effort, persistence, and discipline, but victory is worth the price. And Christians are commanded to resist the devil.
We are human beings. Why should we allow bully thoughts and temptations to push us around?

Excellent blog Brother Steve...GOD wants us to have the VICTORY and we CAN...JESUS left the example of how to obtain it....just SPEAK the WORD OF GOD....The enemy backs up when you speak what thus saith THE LORD....Of course in order to be able to do that...it will take discipline and time and training and effort...to get the MIND OF CHRIST, which is THE WORD..But this if the VICTORY that overcometh the world...even our Faith.. ;o) |

Where do these temptations come from? My experience tells me that when I have successfully conquered a negative thought pattern or habit, I am constantly reminded of it via our "subversive" media. TV tells us it's a perfectly normal way of establishing healthy relationships by living with the person before making a commitment. There isn't a valid software program yet that completely eliminates pornography and other forms of filth and unsettling circumstances from the eyes of children and adults alike. People's opinions at work seem to favor a liberal mindset that allows drunkenness, swinging, bad jokes, disrespect for others and greed. It's a constant fight to think straight in this world of uncontrollable negative influences. I'm not a theologian, but to me, the evil that is out there is not only Satan, who would take advantage of your weaknesses, but also people who would do the same and ourselves, too, who succumb to the temptations that would keep us impure.
Sometimes, I think I have to stay in this "sheltered" world in which I live (between church work and family), in order to keep my spiritual sanity. It's the only place in which God resides--for me, anyway. |

There's a prayer that Jesus taught where he prayed, lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.My best hope of deliverance is through Jesus Christ. Paul echoed the Old Testament when he spoke to the Roman Church saying there is none that doeth good no not one. Christ in you the hope of glory, it's no longer I that liveth but Christ in me. |

Someone said: "I can resist everything except temptation." However, for a believer, that is a lie. We can overcome temptation and live a godly life.
Thanks for the comments and stars. |
