As we approach the wonderful day where we have the freedom to cast our vote for the president of our country tomorrow, I think back of what my parents taught me. My dad would work eight hours a day, and walk-from his work to the polls to vote, a good five miles, and then walk home another four. He never went beyond the sixth grade in school, but my dad loved his country. He couldn't fight in the war because when he was five years old, the bigger boys were playing with fireworks on the fourth of July. They had lit one and put it in a can, it didn't go off, and they said, "Frank, go see why it didn't explode." He did, and as he got to the can, it exploded. That day he lost his eye as was operated on his mothers kitchen table. He was made fun of all his life, and without both of his eyes he could not serve his country. What did he do? He vowed to serve at home by help the servicemen any way he could, and he took an interest in politics. He started working at political s campaigns, he would make signs for them, and help in any way he could. He taught me to NEVER take the right to vote for granted, and no matter what you had to do on that day, you voted. He always did. He reminded me that many died for our country to give me that right to chose who I wanted, and not worry that someone would hurt me for what I thought or did. When it came time for me to vote, I had to wait until I was twenty one. I had two babies by that time, and pushed a baby carriage with the two babies to go and vote. It was the happiest day in my life. I realized I have no right to say that I like or do not like what the leaders of this country do unless I have taken that God given right we have in this wonderful country America, and make it to the polls and cast my vote. I too have worked at many polls, and enjoyed the time there. Nothing beats the feeling one gets, when you put an x, punch out a hole or touch the screen with your choice of a President. He may not win, but the one thing we do know is that God is in Control and we have done what we should do..
My dad, Buppa as my children called him, would say well done Nancy, I am proud of you. It is my prayer that you all go out and vote tomorrow, be thankful that you live in a free country where you can vote without the threat of death. You don't even have to dip your finger in purple dye, just show up, and cast your vote.
When you vote, say a little prayer and thank one of the servicemen that is serving for you, so you can have this freedom. I have thanked many, and every one of them say the same thing, it was my pleasure, it was the right thing, I want to protect my family and my country. God is so good to allow us to live in the United States of America! Thank you Jesus!

| Mike and Laura, My grandparents came to America from Sweden and were thankful for the freedom they received in America. They taught him to put Christ first, his country and his family. He then taught that to us. I am so thankful to have the choice to vote and the freedom. |

My parents never voted, Never and I thought it was such a shame. We have fought long and hard battles for this right and I instilled it in my daughter to vote. There is no other country like ours and it doesn't matter who you vote for (just let the Lord lead you), but we have this right to do so..... SO USE IT...
Great Blog

| Sure is a wonderful gift and glad you voted Brother Todd. mstovall, congrats, you may not have been taught by your parents, but you have taught your daughter right, and you have done right. We let the Lord put the person in office He wants, but we must do our part. Way to go! |

With me being a Vietnam veteran and my son being in the Marines I greatly appreciate your heart toward those who serve. He volunteered...as a father...I was drafted. :-) I am so thankful that there are many who honor our serviceman these days even though they may be against the war...so America is a better place in that respect, than the America I came home to from Vietnam. :-) Warmest regards, Craig [Kent's dad] |
