The bible has much to say about the hearts of men...in fact, it's a major theme through out the entire book. God wants to deal with our hearts.
When we open our mouths, it's the heart within that is speaking. HIs life is either flowing out of us or it's the crusty world we take in and spit back out. We either edify those aound us or tear down according to the things that are settled and growing in our heart.
Today is a good day for a heart check up. It just takes a few minutes...do a self examination. Hit rewind and listen to the conversations you've had this past week. What's at the root of your words? Is it love, peace, strength, compassion, patience, genuine caring? Or have your words been tinged with anger, impatience, bitterness or strife.
When you speak are your conversations self serving or do your words serve others? Are your sentences laced with I want, I need, I think, I am...sentences can reveal the symptoms of your heart condition.
There is hope for the crusty heart! We have a promise in Christ that we can be, and in fact are, new creations.
He's never finished with me. I'm checking in with the heart specialist today. I want a healthy heart, free from any blockages or nasty residue from the world that might prevent the flow of His life to those around me whenever I open my mouth.
7:38 He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.'"
Father, help me to see the things in my own heart that surface as words that might hinder others from knowing you. Help me to remove the things of the world that you never intended to have rooted in my heart. Use my heart to grow in your ways and in your word. Let the abundance of my heart be your spirit alive in me. Let your living water flow freely in me so that it can flow also to those around me.
In Jesus name,
Amen.
