i have suffered with Christ many times, it does seem the better you try to act the more you are dragged threw the mud

that is so true max, not only do we suffer from persecution but we are also the ones who inflict persecution on to other people.

1:29 For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. 1:30 We are in this struggle together. You have seen my struggle in the past, and you know that I am still in the midst of it.

The NIV rendering uses the preposition for. I'm guessing the idea is that it's a privilege to live for him, whether we find blessing or suffering. And Christ himself promised suffering to those who would follow him (Luke 9:23-24). He said "but if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it."  My thought is that he has done so much for me already, if suffering for him brings him glory, then it is my joy.

But then, you are right about suffering with him too!!

3:10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

If Christ is with us at all times, we suffer with him, we share everything with him, every experience whether joy or sorrow. ~mike

1:8 Do not be ashamed then of testifying to our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel in the power of God,

2:20 For what credit is it, if when you do wrong and are beaten for it you take it patiently? But if when you do right and suffer for it you take it patiently, you have God's approval. 2:21 For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

4:19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will do right and entrust their souls to a faithful Creator.

5:9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world.

1:6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.

1:8 Do not be ashamed then of testifying to our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel in the power of God,

I'm thinking persecution and betrayal. Jesus suffered both. I think betrayal is more painful than persecution. Great post!!!

thank you Mary Ann  i think Fred price did good on this sermon i don't always believe the same way he does but there are times when he can make you see thing more clearly. i was thinking about what he said about Jesus never getting sick and i think that the reason he didn't get sick is because he never sinned
