HumilityHUMIL'ITY, n. [L. humilitas.] 1. In ethics, freedom from pride and arrogance; humbleness of mind; a modest estimate of one's own worth. In theology, humility consists in lowliness of mind; a deep sense of one's own unworthiness in the sight of God, self-abasement, penitence for sin, and submission to the divine will. Before honor is humility. Prov 15.
15:33 The fear of the LORD [is] the instruction of wisdom; and before honour [is] humility. No one is going to be honored without becomming humble first. A church realized the importance of humility, so it formed a committee to find the most humble person in the church. Many names were submitted and numerous candidates evaluated. Finally, the committee came to a unanimous decision. They selected a quiet little man who always lived in the background and had never taken credit for anything he had done. They awarded him the "Most Humble" button for his faithful service. However, the next day they had to take it away from him because he pinned it on.
18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 18:4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. converted: changed from a state of sin to a state of holiness little child: not lusting after power, acting as all are equal, count on GOD has a child would count on his parents.
5:3 Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Humility is the spiritual faculty that enables us to perceive we have need. If you don’t think you have need, you probably are not going to have the fellowship and be in prayer the same way has someone that knows they have need. More need translates into more humility. Remember the oppisite of humility is pride.
Humility is the key to God’s heart that unlocks His mercy. One of the greatest things about our Savior He would never ask us to do something he didn’t do!!
2:1 If [there be] therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2:2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, [being] of one accord, of one mind. 2:3 [Let] nothing [be done] through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: No self exaulting here! GOD is the one that must exault us, not ourselves or others. Our Savior was a servant and we must become a servant. 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me. 9:48 And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. The above verse pretty well tells us that Jesus was the least of all while on earth and in being obedient to the Father is now the greatest. That is what is expected of us while on earth. We need to strive to become more Christlike in all we do. |
