From my morning devotions.
21:19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. 21:20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? 21:21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what [shall] this man [do]? 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what [is that] to thee? follow thou me. Peter was walking with Jesus asking what he was to do for The Lord. Looking behind them he saw John and asked about himm also. Jesus answered the same way, "Follow thou me." In other words quit comparing yourself to others and just follow Jesus. As men, society puts the burden of comparison on us from the time we are very young. From grades in school, performance in sporting events, to what type of car we drive and how we perform in the work arena; we are judged by the world's standards, the only standard Jesus left for us was to follow him. In these simple words, we can find comfort. We are not required to drive a nice car or have the biggest house. As a man, it is hard to not compare yourself to the world's standards. When I was young, we had a minister that truly lived this example. He was an engineer for NASA that heard the Lord's call into the ministry. To look at Mac, you would not think that he was a NASA employee, just some country hick. He drove an old Falcon stationwagon and dressed in jeans and flannel shirts. He would give you his last penny, and help anyone that was in need. This man is the humble Godly example I had in my youth. Today I look back at MAc and see that he heeded Jesus' words, "follow thou me." |
