Just wanted to share...this will take a minute to read Yesterday was an awesome day. I am still so overwhelmed today. I was up at 5:45 yesterday morning knowing in my heart that yesterday's election was already signed, seled and delivered! In 1968, 40 years ago Martin Luther King Jr. was murdered because of the dream he had. I was determined for my child and me to be a partof this most historic election. So for all those who sweat, cried, fought and died for change...Yes We Can!!! and so WE DID!!! Tye-Tye, Lashae and I arrived at the polls at 7:30am and stood in line for 4 hours along with hundreds of others to vote. We left the polls at 11:30 am and the line was still just as long as it was 7:30am. After we voted we went to "Bush Street" (that's funny) to volunteer for Barack Obama's Campaign for change. We were then invited to the Democratic Victory Party with the Mayor, Govenor, Elijah Cummings, Stepahnie Rawlings-Blake...to name a few. The place was jam packed. I nor the girls of course had ever seen anything like it. Blacks, whites, hispanics, asians-I mean a real rainbow of color in the room- we hugged, laughed, danced, cried, just celebrated what was about to happen together. There was no concert, no fighting, no cursing we just had a great time watching, and waiting for what we all already felt deep inside...the change we had all been waiting for was coming...and then the announcement...I am sure I felt the entire earth move! Barack Obama is th 44th President of the USA...my God the tears in that room were enough to overflow the Ocean, we hugged, and cried, and for those who know me know we shouted (yes one leg and all), we really celebrated. It was an awesome experience. For anyone who has ever doubted that all things are possible through Christ, you will never understand why the song NEVER WOULD HAVE MADE IT by Marvin Sapp was introduced to us when it was. God has never come short of His word. “Whatever He does, How ever it turns out to be as long as He’s in control things will work out” and in the words of a sermon I heard from my cousin Rev. Janice (Glover) It is not in Y-O-U time it is in DUE time. He’s working it out for the good! We are definitely stronger, wiser and things are getting better! Yes we still have a long way to go but I don’t know about you-“it’s been a long, long time coming” but somebody believed in God’s word, (Martin Luther, Malcolm X, our ancestors, us) and new a change would come and oh yes it did. I am in tears right now, still overwhelmed today. God is in control. My favorite scripture says, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up on wings as eagles…” It is time for us to fly. If ever your faith waivers just reflect on yesterday’s election. We were counted out long ago. But we all came together for this. Not just blacks-we all came together. Thank you God for Dr. King’s dream! I pray that we will all take time out of our day to thank God each and every day not for only the good things but for everything…the good and the bad, the trials and tribulations, success and failure, friends, frienemy’s and enemy’s thank Him for it all. If we did not have the good and the bad we would not appreciate and know that God is, was and is to come. Hold on cause we ain’t seen nothing yet!
I am so looking forward to the change!
P.S In loving memory of all my loved ones who have passed on…I see you smiling….especially to my daddy Edward Aaron Godfrey Sr…. I wish you were here with me to see what’s new in my world…I wish you were here you’d be so proud of your girl…!
