Get Spirit = Get Holy
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. I love this verse. But almost as much as I love what it says, I love what it does not say. It does not say, that if we do not fulfill the lust of the flesh, then we will be walking in the Spirit. It just doesn't work like that. That is not a kingdom principle. Flesh-less, does not ensure Spirit-full. However, Spirit-full enables flesh-less.
"God can't fill a dirty vessel" Oh really? Well, I have news for you. God has no other type of vessel to fill. If we could get Holy on our own, then we would not need the Holy Spirit. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. If we keep the commandments, then we have the love of God, right? Wrong. But if we love God, then we will keep the commandments!
You can live a holy life and not love God. But you can't love God and not be holy.
We can preach about sin from now till doomsday. Being sinless is the fruit of knowing God and not the root. Big difference.
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? Wrath, smath....that's the wrong path. It is the goodness of God that leads a man to repentance!
The New Testament formula is: Get Spirit = Get Holy
It's not Get Holy = Get Spirit

| Of course, you will have to carefully explain this theology to a lot of folks, they will think you are watering down God's word. I too have faced those accusations.... |

That's exactly right, oh Joyful one! Good analogy.
It reminded me of this verse:
He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

You have been accused of that Mike. This I know. Why is that the Good News is just too good to be true to many? For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. The war is over!

If You filled a Dirty Bucket full of very Muddy Water & placed Your Garden Hose in it & turned the Water on for 30 minutes & came back it would be full of clear Water.
So Likewise We Need the Flowing Spirit ...Moving & Stirring & Flushing Out ALL Impurity, To Become His Clearity...His Purity...The Same...This is The Baptism.

Wow!
Your powers of observation are truly inspired. It's VERY easy to get the cart-before-the-horse in this thing and you just documented how that happens.
Awesome, my brutha! Rob |

Rob - Powers of observation, huh? I can take no credit my friend. The Gospel is really so simple we need someone to help us misunderstand it!

Great word. In my quiet time driving home today, I thought of this, just as I heard about the "Humanist Group" or somesuch organization planning to do a ad campaign near Christmastime in DC that says "there's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life". How sad is it that so many people think you are going to do any of this for WORRY that you're making God angry? Now, He WILL judge those that have sinned and not repented and accepted Jesus as their Savior, but He will not enjoy it. It is justice meted out by the infinitely just. It's not a joy for Him to do this. We should come to Christ by realizing the GREAT price He paid on our behalf - a transaction that was ALLOWED to occur because GOD LOVES US SO MUCH HE WOULD GIVE HIS SON - His WORD in FLESH - to us to die. I don't know about those ad people, but I am not worried about ANYTHING (in the grand scheme of things, like they seem to be insinuating). I have BLESSED ASSURANCE that God is GREAT, He LOVES me, and I LOVE Him so much for all He did even when I was in sin, that I don't WANT that SIN near me anymore! |

I am hearing you GIF! - Thanks!
I have two sons. Man I love those boys. And I was thinking......If I were God...and if I could somehow offer one of them to forgive the sins of the entire world, presented as spotless and without blemish, and the they got rejected because somehow people thought that their sacrifice was not quite enough.....I would be appalled....more than appalled....I would be downright flabbergasted.
Jesus + anything we do is trash!
Jesus alone!
In the old testament it wasn't the person offering the sacrifice that had to be blemish free. It was the sacrifice itself. I can;t burn the moles off my body. I am not without blemish. But praise God my savior is!
The world says "if it's too good to be true it probably is". That's exactly why I choose not to be "of" this world. It is too good, and it is too true.

Is this what you are saying?
A wise man once said, "lust is when you can not wait." I believe the difference between lust and love is that lust thinks it can not be controlled (doesn't want to be controlled by God) and love knows it can (chooses to be controlled by God). You run away from lust and pursue love. I believe it is not a matter of choosing to stop sinning, but choosing to submit to God. For I have learned that I do not have the ability or power to overcome my weaknesses, temptations, and sins. Only He has the power to truly change a life, otherwise, if I stop something because I choose too or I wanted too then I can say it was by "my power" and "my strength" and "my character" -- not Christ in me the hope of Glory! Only through Christ can I give up something I want so badly. Only through Christ can I get beyond the desires of my flesh and see beyond my selfish motives. Submitting to God is saying: I choose Christ I choose to fill up my soul with Him I choose not to have any other gods I choose to hunger and thirst after righteousness then all other things will fall away.... |

That's good Bren, that's very good!
My own life exemplifies this truth. Before receiving Christ I had no fear of Hell no matter how much I was "preached" to. I was already living in a form of Hell, therefore going there for eternity scared me not.
But when the love of God filled my heart, then the darkness had to flee. It's the law of displacement.
When God says he will pour out a blessing we cannot contain, I believe His love is that blessing. There is absolutely no way to contain it.
Thanks for the great comment! |
