"The love of worldly possessions is a sort of a bird line, which entangles the soul, and prevents it flying to God." -Saint Augustine (354-430)
"Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited." -Romans 12:16
The feast day of Leo the Great and so I decided to read up on him to learn what made him so great in the Roman Catholic Church. It seems what made him so great was in my mind his determination to defending the people of Rome and the Catholic Faith. He even encountered Attila the Hun. That is just amazing! He also presuaded the invaders to desist from pillaging the city and harming its inhabitants. He wrote many letters and other types of writings of Catholic or of great historical value.
Because we (Camille and I) were not able to get to Saint Patrick's I printed off the readings for the day and they were Titus 1: 1-9, which speaks of how a bishop: "For a bishop, as God's steward, must be blameless; he must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of goodness, master of himself, upright, holy, and self-controlled; he must hold first to the sure word as taught, o that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to confute those who contradict it." (Titus 1:7-9) I believe that right there speak greatly with the ideals and example of Saint Leo the Great. |
