To add a comment to "Are you Right, Left or in the Middle?"

Fun test, and accurate, at least in my case.  I scored in the middle (19) with Colin Powell, and, as a registered Independent, would have been surprised with any other result.  Fun post, Voice!

29, between George Bush the elder and Jack Kemp. About what I expected. Toughest question to me was "Who was a better president "Reagan or FDR"? My roots made me go FDR.

I always considered myself much more conserative than this test said I was.  On the other hand, I scored a 26, right under George Bush.  And I love the Bush's.  I think they are the best ever!  So that part was right on!  I am still hoping Jeb will run for President someday.

Speaking as a Floridian of 8 years now, Jeb was a very good gov. and would probably be the best of all the Bush family as president. It's for sure he can speak better than GW.

Don't want to lose sight of this post. I'll have to take the test later tonight. Thanks DC!!! I'll give a full report later :-)

OK,
So I thought I was a fiscal conservative and socially a bit liberal, but, I will admitt, at 34 Bob Dole is good company, although I would rather be Reagan's friend.

Cathy, I actually pegged you as a 10...I am surprised!

I scored much more liberal than I expected - I thought I would be right about in the middle and I came out at 19.  Some might be reaction to recent news...

Bestemor...that is right in the middle - when you consider 0 - 40 is the scale...

Bunny, so far you are definitely the one with the strongest convictions...several others took it where I work and the furthest left was a 6. The furthest right was a 35. I am actually amazed we don't have more in the upper 30s.

Would be interesting to map the scores by age to see if we change as we walk through life. I know I have. Don't know if the change is better or worse. It just "is". Thanks for all your comments.

Having lived long, I have experienced many instances of being obliged, for better information or fuller consideration, to change opinions even on important subjects, which I once thought right, but found to be otherwise.  (Ben Franklin 1787)

As you say, Voice, it's left to God to judge whether better or worse, but my opinions have definitely changed a lot in the past 20 years.  I'm sure 20 years from now I'll look back to now and say the same.

Here's another fun political quiz to confirm your results of this one:  http://blogthings.com/howliberalorconservativeareyouquiz/

35.  I think a couple of those questions didn't have enough options.

Kathy, great quote. Might need to get that one for my office. My primary changes have been against government. I have worked in it long enough to know that it can take the simplest task, build a great beauracracy, and become totally inefficient. Sure there are exceptions, but they are few. I have certainly become more antigovernment meaning there are many things government does, but others should do. I can't say I know how to change it, but it has soured me on many government programs. The programs begin well then evolve into a monster that no longer cares for the people it serves. I have seen it too often. Ok, off my soap box now...

Cathy, I like that qoute, too. There is a lot of wisdom in those words. Norm, sounds like if you had more options you might be more central. I do agree with you, though. Based on what I said above, I ended up selecting the closest answer to my ideas.

I hated the trust section. :)

And that's just sad.

Sad, but real, I think. Kathy, just did the survey at your link above. Results are pretty consistent. I like the way they split up the results in different categories.

A person would naturally score more liberal on this test. I left 2/3rds unanswered they were so leftist in the way they were asked and the selections were a leftist bias (unbiblical) as well!

Reconn, you are speaking as someone from the "right". This survey, actually tends to be more centrist - drawing people to the center - than others. So, they may seem leftist to you because you are "right". Those who are typically "left" would say the questions represent a right-leaning view. That is the value of a quality survey and why they are difficult to write - and why they are often dismissed by some who don't like the results. By the way, a leftist bias is not always unbiblical. Perhaps the way the government carries it out is, but not the bias.

38 -- Is there a prize?
john cummins
June 13, 2007

Here is an example:

Which would do more to guarantee competitive elections?

Term limits
Public Financing

What choices are these? I would pick neither. There were several choices like that. Or who would you trust less? I trusted all equally less! Or one was about, taking guns or locking criminals up or something like that. Again, I'd choose neither.

Which would curb violent crime most?

Stricter controls on the sale of guns
Mandatory sentences for those who use guns in the commission of a crime
Both

And again, I'd say neither.

11. In the long run, do you think we can reduce crime more by building more prisons or providing more financial assistance to rebuilding our inner cities?

Build prisons
Rebuild cities
Both

Again, I would say neither.

The survey simply did not offer enough choices either leftist or constitutional.

PastorDan, That is the highest I have seen so far. You and Bunny get the door prizes!

That's a phrase I've always wondered about.  Did someone actually used to give out doors for prizes?

I scored an 18, but there were at least 3 questions that I did not agree with any of the answers provided... so, I could actually be a 15 or a 21.

Either way, just confirms my maternal Republican and paternal Democratic background both had equal bearing on my views.

Thanks DC, this was fun!

Voice,
To add to your age theory, I'm 50, former Marine and scored a 37.  I lean so far to the right that I will only sit on the right side of any room I'm in. :)

Rlloyd56, Too funny...ummm...wonder if that is why I always feel comfortable sitting on the ride side in church...nah, probably just cause it is closer to the words that are projected for worship, so maybe THAT is an age thing. Mary Ann, very central...interesting. Have to wonder if current events drive you slightly one way or the other. AndyM, I do wonder about the current events items. Usually professional pollers (like Pew and Gallup) give one current event question to give an indication of that. I happen to be one of those people that Gallup polls about four times a month. They always have one or two questions about a current event that is totally un related to the poll. When I asked why they did that, they said they use it to eliminate temporary biases.

To be honest I was surprised it could give me a score at all (22) I left most blank as most of the options did not satisfy my Libertarian beliefs in any way. Alas, the third party is forgotten *sniff* It was very interesting, especially the question of which president was better.

Thanks for letting us in on this!

Here is an article that shows that some people change. It studies the voting records of Congressmen who have daughters...
