For this past couple days I have had a song in my heart. I began singing it in the shower yesterday morning. It goes like this:
Learning to Lean,
Learning to Lean,
Learning to Lean on Jesus,
Finding More Power Than I've Ever Dreamed.
I'm Learning to Lean on my Jesus.
And then I added a line:
You are My Savior
My Lord, and My King
On You, My God,
I am Learning to Lean.
I personally believe that I am constantly led by God - I am not saying I always, without fail follow that leading but I am constantly led by God. I know He put this song in my heart. How do I know? Because after I sang it the first time, about a dozen things came at me that same day, to the point that I was constantly singing that song - I was constantly learning to lean. That song in my heart helped me to keep peace in my heart when interruptions and distractions came at me full force.
The word 'lean' means to bend as in to rest on something. Remember the palm tree? It must bend when winds blow over it - if not, it will break. To lean on Jesus is to bend toward Him and rest on Him - rest in Him and place that care over on Him.
You know, when you break a leg, you walk on a crutch and you put your weight on the crutch to keep pain or damage out of your body. It's the same when we lean on Jesus. It keeps pain and damage out of our body, both spiritually and physically.
If we decide to carry all the cares that come our way, it will inevitably affect us spiritually and if we continue to carry care and anxiety - you can rest assured that it will affect us physically. We have all seen the effects of someone who has been under pressure for a long period of time.
1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast our care on Him for He cares for us. I think we are pretty good about casting the big cares on God. Those we know we can't handle ourselves, we readily cast them on Him. I believe it is the small cares that we tend to carry. However, when we do that, even with small cares, after a while those small cares add up and become large burdens.
I am talking about the cares of life; daily life. Those that come along every day - let me give you some examples. Interruptions are a part of daily life, you are going about your day and have it all planned out, then something happens to get everything off course - what do you do with that care? Do you get frustrated and try to fix it - putting your whole day off balance or do you cast that care on Him and get His wisdom and allow Him to cause your day to continue to go according to plan?
Or perhaps your day is going along well, you are at peace, all is well. Then someone comes along and starts picking and making ugly comments - do you pick up that care or cast it on Him and allow Him to deal with it? Remember when we rest on something and take the weight off us - it is keeping us from being in pain and keeping us from damage.
I encourage you today to cast ALL your cares on Him. Don't allow those little ones to add up - it's the little foxes that spoil the vine. Cast ALL the cares on Him - from the smallest and most insignificant to the big ones. He cares for you - and He wants to take care of every single one of them.
Father, I ask You to put a song in the heart of each reader today - that when a care comes their way - they will begin to sing that song and cast that care immediately on You. In Jesus Name. So Be It.
On a final note, remember the words to the song in my heart - as I learn to lean - I am finding more power than I ever dreamed - but it's only when I am leaning on Jesus.
