It was time for Gold Nuggets again last night, our poetry group in the local Jesus Centre. We had a good time, young and not so young people sharing favourite poems written by themselves or others. We had three guest poets this time, from Open Doors, a support group for and by ex-prisoners. They had done a project on knife crime and written poems and raps about it, and one of them shared his testimony and read his favourite poetry from the Psalms. Very good! We hope they can find time to come again! People are finding friendship and inner healing through the group, and some have been coming to church since joining us, so God is at work. Several of the prsioners I write to send me poems to read. In that way they can also contribute to the group. One of them gave us a challenge once. He started a poem and challenged us to finish it. Some of us took it on, and he enjoyed reading and commenting on the results. A good way to forge friendships! I enjoy sharing my own poems and short stories, and getting to know others who write or enjoy reading, and most of all I'm blessed to see the Lord at work in and through the group. I'm looking forward to the next one, on January 9th 2009. |
