I just encountered a situation with a student who professes Christ who had on her desk a written book titled "Book of Wisdom" with a hand-drawn emblem of the sun, moon, and stars. The teacher who assigned this is a self acclaimed athiest who lashes out at any students who proclaim Christ. I have counciled many of these students who wish to share their faith with him but do not want to be forced to go against their beliefs. This "book" that the students are being forced to write is a replica of some handbook he is "teaching" out of. It often alarms my collegues that I, a certified high school teacher, will homeschool my children. Parents should be outraged. The book employs 6 strategies of life: 1) Obey: to defer to the wisdom of others, to accept life as it is2) To Deal: to negotiate or bargain for the best possible deal in life3) To Exit: to cultivate ones gardens, to shut out the world, to concentrate on one's life4) To Seek: to search for knowledge5) To Talk: to reveal all to others, in order to dispell gloom, or advance by smashing and decorum6) To Make: to be creative with no guarantee that it will produce results that anyone values, understands, or not diguise imitationsThe student in question voluntarily drew the emblem on her book cover being "bored" but no thought whatsoever is given to the compromises being made. Most people would tell me that I am taking this too far but look at those strategies for life...they are either self-seeking or void of hope. It is by no surprise that the teacher in question is a person of miserable countenance. I had a situation at my last church where one of my youth was forced by his teacher to develop a mythical god of his own. He was to give it powers, draw it, and present it to the class.
This also is a blatant violation of our beliefs...and the teacher was a self acclaimed pentecostal Christian. People we must realize that there are laws that God has ordained that our enemy clings to like white on rice. He does not need our formal permission, he just needs us to give him the authority to do so. He is a lion roaming about seeking who he may destroy. Our actions, even in ignorance, against principles that God has laid (go out and be seperate) give our enemy all of the authority he needs. I believe many Christians struggle unecessarily because of authority we give the enemy in our day to day lives that we write off as "not that important".
The Bible eludes to the fact that our senses are the windows or gateways to our souls. What we look at, listen to, touch, write, be present for, etc is a demonstration with our agreement with whatever it may be. Am I going too far, years ago I would say maybe. Some people today would say that I may be "legalistic" but my experience in this arena of deliverance has led me to the conlusion that our biggest enemy is not Satan, it is our own refusal to obey God in everything. This Christian teenager looked me in the face and said, "I was bored...it's no big deal." I imagine that is most people's responses nowadays...which makes this all the more serious. |
