Don’t we all want our home to feel comfortable, safe, and relaxing? When people come to stay with us in our home, do we not do all we can to ensure they are also comfortable and that they have a joyful and fulfilling experience? Do you want God to live within you? I do. Often I wondered why I couldn’t feel the joyful presence of God within me. I finally figured out why. Well, I suppose it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out, but some times the obvious things are the hardest to see. In Joyce Meyer’s book “Knowing God Intimately” (2003), she points directly to the living arrangements that we are providing for God within our heart. “If we want [our inner selves] to be a comfortable home for the Lord, we must give up grumbling, complaining, fault finding, and murmuring.” “…He is not comfortable in the midst of our sour attitudes.” 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas [there is] among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? She goes on to say “ When we examine our inner life, we are looking at holy ground where the Spirit of God wants to make his home.” But she doesn’t stop there, she goes on to add in conclusion, “Our outer life reflects our reputation with people, but our inner life determines our reputation with God.” 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 3:11 [Seeing] then [that] all these things shall be dissolved, what manner [of persons] ought ye to be in [all] holy conversation and godliness, 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
Well, I must go. It would appear as though I have a lot of house cleaning to do! |
