JONAH'S THANKSGIVING

2:1 1:17Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.


2:2 2:1Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,



Jonah 2:9
I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving;
I will pay what I have vowed.  Salvation is of the Lord.
Amazingly, the prophet Jonah gave thanks to God while he was in the great fish's belly (Jonah 2:1).  How would you respond if you were Jonah?  Where are You?  Why is this happening?"  But Jonah reacted differently: "I cried out to the Lord because of my affliction, and He answered me.  Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard My voice"  (vs.2).  He then described his sinking into the sea and the severity of his dilemma (vs. 3-5).
Nevertheless, in the midst of such great trauma, Jonah prayed, "You have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord, my God.  When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; and my prayer went up to You, into Your holy temple" (vv. 6-7).  Although he had his weaknesses, Jonah reflected great spiritual stability in his prayer.  He was confident of God's ability to deliver him if He so chose.  In the same way, the peace of God will help you if you react to circumstances with thankful prayer.

Nice blog Mary...May we all, no matter what the circumstance, offer up to the Lord words of praise and thanksgiving.....I WILL bless the Lord at ALL times..and His PRAISE shall continually be in my mouth ;o)

And my favorite verses from Jonah:

Jonah 2:7-9

When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

Those are the voices that whisper to us: "You have sinned and you're going to die!"  Those who listen to lying vanities forsake their own mercy!  We have to submit to God and we must then resist the devil and he will flee from us.  If we don't submit to God and we don't resist the devil then the devil will eat our lunch and then pop the bag.  Don't blame God.  He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleans us of all unrighteousness if we just confess our sins.  We then submit to God, believe Him and thank Him that we are the very righteousness of God himself, in Christ.
