5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 5:45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 5:46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 5:47 And if you salute only your brethren, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? That's right, love your enemy, your opponent (echthros-greek translation). This is People, and people is whom the scripture is speaking.
REMEMBER WE WRESTLE AGAINST EVIL SPIRITS.
You know it is true, that often times, we believe someone set out to hurt us (and sometimes they do), but most often they weren't even thinking about us at all. You were just the unlucky person that got in their way as they were climbing up the selfish ranks of corporate america. How did they get that way? What were you like before you got saved? They are not who we are at war with. Our battle is spiritual, my Friend. We must love our enemy.
Let me share a piece of a story Max Lucado wrote about in this subject. It, in many ways, it is a perfect example of looking at our enemy from Gods view.
Some years ago a rottweiler attacked our golden retriever puppy at a kennel. The worthless animal climbed out of its run and into Molly's and nearly killed her. He left her with dozens of gashes and a dangling ear. I wrote a letter to the dog's owner, urging him to put the dog to sleep. But when I showed the letter to the kennel owner, she begged me to reconsider. 'What that dog did was horrible, but I'm still training him. I?m not finished with him yet.' God would say the same about the rottweiler who attacked you. 'What he did was unthinkable, unacceptable, inexcusable, but I'm not finished yet.' Your enemies still figure into God's plan. Their pulse is proof: God hasn't given up on them. Don't give up on your enemy just yet. by Max Lucado
