| Sharing Jesus should cost me something, right? |
|
| |
What I’m writing now isn’t quite what I expected to write today as I woke this morning. Yesterday, I received a memorable phone call. I had invited myself to a neighbor’s house a week ago, for the dual purpose of watching the Ravens-Redskins NFL game tonight, and cultivating a relationship with hopes of sharing Jesus. Yesterday’s call was to inform me that our plans had to be scratched, because he wouldn’t be watching the game at his house. Instead, he had just won 2 tickets to the game at a fundraiser, and since his “domestic partner” wasn’t interested in going, he was inviting me!!
(At this point I must sheepishly admit my weakness for football!)
Today, I was going to write a tongue in cheek blog about the “cost” of sharing Jesus with my neighbors. That was before I went to church this morning, and listened to the founder of a ministry to Ukrainian orphans, talk about being arrested, in multiple countries, for spreading the Gospel. For me, telling people about Jesus involves very little cost, and in fact, today I am rewarded. Elsewhere in the world, people risk persecution, prison, and even death.
So much for any pride on my part, for reaching out to my neighbors. I am reminded that I do nothing, NOTHING, but respond to the opportunities given to me. Nevertheless, as I see it, the Lord has still blessed me for my openness to being salt and light where we live.
ps… There may be a cost after all. The temperature is supposed to be in the teens tonight, so I may be cold, very cold! If you catch the game on tv (8:30 pm EST), say a prayer for us!
Go Ravens!!!!

It still amazes me that in some parts of the world people are still jailed or abused in some way for spreading the Good News.... We are so blessed to be in a country where we can speak openly about our faith...
Stay war little brother and enjoy the game |

I am reading this at ten tonight. I had a fire going with my nephew and his girl for dinner and firechats about the Lord. We ended up coming inside, too cold. It will be 19 tomorrow here they say. Hope you have lots of hot chocolate at the game. I bought wood off a man who is trying to support himself selling it so my nephew could enjoy more than just grilled dinner. He wants his girl to be closer to God. He told me tonight that he was inspired by me. He is 19. I had a book to read but decided this was better to do because it is ministry. We spoke of deep things and had a wonderful time. She took pics and I will upload some when she sends them to me. In the end, it was a very spiritual evening, and all I had to do was be hospitable. I bought some steaks, made broccoli, served my famous mint tea from that grown in my garden and sent some fresh mint home with them. I bought wood and ministered to a man's need to support himself and God gives the increase. That neighbor has made a life changing decision asking you to the game. Ha, I love to see God working these things out. |

Just got home....it was so c-c-c-cold! But the Ravens won 24-10!! My neighbor and I had an awesome time, and I'm sure all sorts of doors are open.
Lord thanks for putting us into situations and making things happen the way you want them to. I enjoy simply being used. In Jesus' name.... |

Mike, you sheep you. Wear your warmest wool pullover. What some people will not do to get out of a warm house! Don't care for either team, but I'm sure a splendid time is guaranteed for all. Enjoy!!
I think you may end up biting that tongue in cheek as you brave the elements. Think of his love for his team! His commitment and willingness and undauntedness by the cold weather. All these and more including that hot beer (you do hope, right, Mike?) he might offer are icebreakers (reality, not pun, intended) in your determination to preach (yes, that's the right word) Jesus.
Looking forward to hearing about how it went.
Yes. I know by now this has happened, but . . . tells about it. |

Mike, I am glad you had a good time. Only Jesus would give you an opportunity to share at a football game. Long gone are the door to door evangelism. People want to know about relationship and see proof!!! Glad you had fun!
My husband is taking my nephew to a Green Bay Packer game in December in WI....talk about could. They are excited!! The are on the 45 yard line, above the Packers bench and they get all kinds of other stuff in their package. Once in a life time event for a 15 year old!!!
God Bless ~Robin |

We have to look for opportunities as Robin said about door to door...and they don't always let you in. I attended a Mary Kay party because a wiccan friend asked me and although I hate stuff like that, I went. I was the only one that showed. I bought some face cream and liked it, surprisingly and gave up oil of olay. I shared Jesus and her director is saved. Seeds planted and I got blessed. I had a friend who believed in a tithe of time as well as giving of time. I felt that way yesterday when my nephew wanted to come out to show his girlfriend my camp. I wanted to read a book but....in the long run, the word was shared and it was a tithe of my time and I got blessed. His girl was LISTENING as I put out the gift of hospitality, and loved her soul with all I had. Mike, keep us posted and I will soak your neighbor in prayer for salvation. Now off to work....juanita |

Gil, I wish I had a wool pullover! It was frigid last night!
Robin, I thought a lot about what it must be like to go to a game in Green Bay. I was trying think thoughts that would make me feel warmer!
Juanita, I WISH that I had been handed an opportunity to share my hope in Jesus with my neighbor last night, as I would like to share Jesus with ALL of my neighbors!! But alas no opportunity came (or if it did, I missed it). Nevertheless, I continue to seek to build relationships with my neighbors.....I love them, you know, with a love that springs from the glorious Gospel the Lord has planted in me. We must be patient and relentless, I believe.
To all, thanks for your prayers, my brothers and sisters. They were NOT in vain!!! |

Christ can be shared even by those who don't know him. Those who were not His followers cast out demons in His name; He tells us that no one who does a miracle in His name can soon thereafter speak evil of Him. We are blind to the fact that the cost of discipleship is our very life. It is not 10% is God's and 90% is mine; it is that 100% is God's and even my very life is His. Unless we give up (not give away) everything we possess we cannot be His disciple. If we have truly offered our self-life to God as those who have been put to death in Christ and who are now alive to God in Him; and our bodies as weapons of righteousness then what we do, where we go, and how much we give would never be an issue; we wouldn't need to be making rules and algorithms to give the appearance that we are actually his disciples and He is actually Lord (King) of all that we have and all that we are. 16:24 Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 16:25 For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 14:26 "If any one comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 14:27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 14:33 So therefore, whoever of you does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. So in my current understanding it isn't that sharing Jesus may cost us, it is that actually being His disciple will cost us...everything. If it doesn't then we are only deceiving ourselves. Sincerely, Craig |

"100% is God's and even my very life is His."
Craig, I really appreciate and share this perspective. Nevertheless, although we figuratively put our entire paycheck into the offering plate (it ALL belongs to the Lord, right?), we still must determine/discern how much to literally put into the offering plate.
Not all who are in need of ministry live in poverty, thus some ministers live more comfortably than others. All I'm saying is, the literal cost varies.
Thanks for sharing your perspective, brother! |

| It is amazing how much we take for granted. We've got it so good in this country, but we often complain about how "hard" life can be. Most of us don't really know what that word means. I am not a Ravens fan (I live in Ohio, so the Ravens are a bad word around here) but I am glad you had fun at the game! |

| Mike you can be so funny at times!! I hope you were able to share the word of God with your nieghbor. How awesome that you got to go to the game. I am not sorry you had to be cold. Isn't that just a part of football? We used to go to the college games near our town and half the fun was getting dressed warm and freezing. Have a wonderful day!! |
