I was watching the Maury show with my wife one day and one of his guests was a woman who had dozens of plastic surgeries in what she called the,'quest for perfection'. The quest for our personal perfection can be a tool used by satan to seperate us from God, when we focus on the material things like the lastest gadget, the fastest car or the biggest house. We can also can be caught in the same trap when we focus too much on our physical apperance, seeking out medical procedures or always having to possess the latest in fashion. All of these things are only temporary. If we allow these things to become our main focus in life they become false idols and take us off God's path.
We must know in our hearts that all we need is given to us by God, and in His eyes we are all beautiful the way we are. Remember 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

| Patrick, that's an awesome thought! I've blogged on the topic of personal perfection quite a few times in the last few months, and my latest blog goes there too. This preoccupation started when I ran across some folks who actually believe that perfection in this lifetime is achievable. Total sinless perfection, mind you. There are a few clear scriptures that they conveniently ignore in order to stick to their theology. ~mike |

| I think WANTING perfection is a good thing - it's in our makeup to want to be better. We are sinful by nature, and if we realize, we should realize we want to be 'better'. But it's often misguided, and takes the form you mentioned - outwardly, or financially, better. Our imperfect human bodies and existence here should HONOR God, but it shouldn't be done in any way to assume we're EVER going to BE perfect - but if the journey is made to STRIVE for perfection, within and without, and it helps us on our journey to the Lord, it's OK. |

| I'm not one for "perfecting" myself, just wanting better for me and my family. It is with Him that this can be achieved. Too many times and too many people seem to believe that God will give them what they WANT instead of what they NEED. Prayer is heard, but all too often people tend to ask for the unachievable, or miracles for the unrealistic wants. Perfection is not who looks the best, or who has the most. |
