The above quote is from a book I just finished reading this morning. It was the last book Jerry Falwell wrote before he died. Here is the entire quote:
"Faith is not just receiving from God what you want; faith is the ability to accept what He gives and glorify Him in all circumstances." This was from day 30 entitled When Your Faith Doesn't Seem To Work The book is written in a devotional format and you can cover it in a month if you follow that format. There were no amazing insights in this book and no new truths but having said that let me quickly add I think it is worth a look. Here are some reasons I think it would be worth your time to read this book: - Learn from one who practiced living by faith and built a world wide ministry
- Jerry Falwell is very candid in this book and he talks about his successes and failures
- This is a great devotional study in practical living by faith
- It is neat to be able to look over the shoulder of one of the most famous pastors in America
- It's easy to read format make it a good devotional tool
- I think following the advice in this book could impact your life in a real way
This is not a book on how to get things from God, but rather how to trust God for the big picture as well as your daily battles. If you are facing some real challenges in your life I think this would be a good book for you. Jerry Falwell died a few weeks ago, there were many people who blasted him in the media both before and after his death. Let me leave you with a couple of quotes from the book that was written just two years ago. Remember, we serve a God who can do the impossible, "For with God nothing will be impossible" (LK 1:37). People laugh when I tell them, "I'm too busy to die." They also laugh when I say I have a twenty-year plan--as I write I'm 71 years old--but I've got a lot of things I want to do for God before I die. And when I go home to see my Lord, I'll be in the driver's seat looking down the road at the future. I'll not be an old man rocking on the front porch surveying all my past accomplishments. By the time you read this, I may be in heaven with Jesus, or I could still be alive. If God grants me more years, I want to win more battles, construct more buildings for Liberty University, recruit more students, and plant more churches. My greatest challenge will always be tomorrow, so I'll have to work hard to make each "today count" so I'll have more victories in the coming "tomorrows."
