4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 4:20 And they straightway left [their] nets, and followed him. Jesus begins filling the position of disciples with two brothers. Peter and Andrew, they were fishermen by trade. Their interest in religion was peeked when John the Baptist came on the seen preaching about the kingdom of heaven. Andrew realized that John was a man sent from God, John said,I am not the Messiah but I've come to make straight the way of his coming. Peter and Andrew had heard the messages of John the Baptist, during this time Jesus appears unto John to be baptized. Also John speaking through the Spirit, proclaims that Jesus was the Lamb of God, that would take away the sins of the world. Now we find Jesus beginning his ministry, calling these two brothers to leave the fishing trade and become full time fishers of men. Peter and Andrew didn't waste anytime for the Bible says, they straightway left their nets. Jesus goes on to call ten other men to come here and follow me. I want to focus on Simon Peter, Jesus had a time communicating with him on the level of doing God's will. 13:5After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe [them] with the towel wherewith he was girded. 13:6Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 13:7Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 13:8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 13:9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also [my] hands and [my] head. Jesus wanting to prepare his disciple for after his crucifiction, he eats the Passover with them. Jesus takes water into a bason and wraps a towel around him and begins washing his disciples feet. Jesus comes to Peter and in his usual manner, questions the Lord washing his feet. Jesus tries to explain to Peter but as usual Peter don't understand the Lord needing to wash his feet. Jesus has to be firm and tells Peter if I don't wash your feet, you'll have not part with me. The light comes on and Peter wants a bath instead of a feet washing. Lot's of things are happening and Jesus is trying to prepare his disciples for what's ahead. 13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice. Peter hearing Jesus lay out the Father's plan, that he had to be made sin and die for mankind. Peter rejects the Father's plan, tells Jesus, he can't allow that to happen. Here Jesus tell Satan to get behind him, tells Peter that Satan desires him. Jesus reassures Peter, I have prayed for you, and when your converted and mature strengthen the brethren. Peter being full of himself, tells Jesus I'll never deny you. Jesus knew what lie ahead, Peter as wide open about never denying Jesus denied him 3 times, even cussing saying I never knew him at the crowing of the rooster. 21:15So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. 21:16He saith to him again the second time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. 21:17He saith unto him the third time, Simon, [son] of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. After the resurrection, the third appearance to his disciples. Jesus get up close and personal with Peter. After they had dined Jesus ask Peter, Do you love me? The question is ask three times for the three denials, yet each time the answer was Lord, you know I love you. Jesus again knew what was a head, Jesus assures Peter that he will live to be an old man. Jesus knew that Peter would be called on to explain the out pouring of the Holy Ghost on the day of pentecost. Jesus knew that Peter would become a pillar for the church to become established. All this came about because Peter answered the call to Come Here & Follow Me. |
