So, I posted this in another blog, but I think it's a good stepping-off point for discussion. One of the greatest mysteries of faith is understanding - comprehending - the Trinity. I know St. Patrick used the idea of a shamrock, but that didn't work for me. God gave me a scientific mind, and that's how I think. So, here goes: Think of a pot sitting on a stove, the heat turned all the way up. Now, take a bag of ice and fill the pot all the way up. What do you have? Well, you've got water, but you've got it in three forms: - Water can be water (liquid)
- Water can be gas (steam)
- Water can be solid (ice)
You can have all three of them in the same pot on the stove, existing as ONE thing (water) and still having very different properties. God the Father is the solid ice - the Foundation, the start of it all. God the Son is the water - able to change His nature to fit his container (INFINITE GOD in a FINITE human body). Able to CLEANSE our sin by His purity. God the Holy Spirit is the steam - able to reach and expand outward into whatever vessel it's held into - aka the Church and it's members. Take it a few steps further....I look forward to your thoughts. |
