| Summer Book Club: UPDATE |

Update: Folks, I stole a few hours this afternoon and finished this book today. I will write a review about it soon, but I just had to let you know how wonderful this novel is! This is truly a book about what makes a family a family (does that make sense?), specifically what makes a father a father. Hint: It is not DNA. I have never read a book I could so highly recommend for men to read as this one. This book is not always pretty and discusses some pretty disturbing issues, but not without hope! I also caught a couple of words in there that are not allowed in my home, but I'm full grown and could handle it. All I can say for now is every boy needs an Uncle Willie in their life. For that matter, so does every girl. Read it and get ready to weep; chapter 39 is a doozy. Curious? I hope so! Read it with me, please! I'd love to have someone to discuss it with when August 20 rolls around. ----------------- Want to read a book together this summer? How about Chasing Fireflies by Charles Martin! I picked up a copy today and would love to discuss this book at the end of the summer. It looks like a great summer fiction read. From the back cover:
"They have one summer to find what was lost long ago. 'Never settle for less than the truth,' she told him. But when you don't even know your real name, the truth gets a little complicated. It can nestle so close to home it's hard to see. It can even fourish inside a lie. And as Chase Walker discovered, learning the truth about who you are can be as elusive - and as magical - as chasing fireflies on a summer night. "
"A haunting story about fishing, baseball, home cooking, and other matters of life and death..."
With all that going for it, this should be a book that can interest both men and women. If anyone would like to join in, you can purchase the book here, at Jacob's Well, a family run book store that advertises here on MyChurch. I found a review for the book here.
Check in here if you plan on reading along with me. We'll touch base now and then through the summer and we'll figure out how to discuss the book online towards the end of August. I hope you join me! |
