| Chauncey Bailey Murder Update |

A few months ago, I wrote a blog decrying the lack of progress by the media and police in investigating the murder of local journalist (and faithful Catholic) Chauncey Bailey. In the intervening months, the police, media, and Chauncey Bailey Project have made progress.
It turns out that part of the inaction in the case was that there was ineptitude or corruption in the Oakland Police Department. Homicide detectives and chief have been reassigned in part because of their mis- and malfeasance during the investigation of Your Muslim Bakery and Yousef Bey IV in association with the Bailey murder.
The importance of this case cannot be overstated. A journalist murdered in an attempt to silence attempts to uncover a corrupt business enterprise and/or person, cuts to the heart of universal inalienable rights, constitution, natural law. The overlay of religious antipathy and internecine racial politics can not be ignored either. So while this may sound like a small and very local story, it has a very universal implications; especially as more and more people in America and around the world live in increasingly urban locales.
For decent background on the man and the case, here is the link to his Wikipedia entry.
Here in the link to the Chauncey Bailey Project, with recent news reports and commentaries on the case.
The East Bay Express, a free-alternative weekly newspaper, has a blurb here on the progress of the case, and the fallout in the Oakland Police Department here. Scroll down to Chauncey Bailey Blunder paragraph at this link.
The East Bay Express also tried to put the unconscionably high crime rate Oakland to the misguided Oakland Police Department under-staffing, focus, policies and approaches toward crime (with a specific nod to the Bailey case) here. The crime rate stats and background on Oakland's politics and police clog up the first four electronic pages of this story, and it is frustrating. Hang with the story, and deep on page four the whole picture of the OPD starts coming into focus. |
