| Do You Have a Mentor? |
|
| |
Here is a picture of my mentor teaching Jamie how to play the piano.
Today I would like to talk about the many benefits of having a mentor. If you don't have one, get one! The Word says that the older women should teach the younger women. We could also say the same for the men. And if you are older, are you a mentor? How about praying for your own personal mentor, or someone to mentor? I just happened to stumble across my mentor, when I was looking for a music teacher. But let me tell you how having a mentor has changed my life. It is just wonderful to have someone who is smarter and wiser than you. Someone who has "been there, done that" and has come out smelling like a rose.
2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 2:3 The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 2:5 [To be] discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. 2:6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 2:7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine [shewing] uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, My mentor's name is Kay and she is also my music teacher and friend. Which is wonderful, because she not only teaches me how to play music, but she is always there with spiritual application. We are very different when it comes to doctrinal beliefs. But when it comes to every day habits, we are almost identical. It is actually very funny. She is me in 25 years! Kay is who I want to be in 25 years. I always say she is just like me, but with wisdom :) She also says how much I remind her of herself when she was younger. She has been a breast cancer survivor for 25 years. Her Godly wisdom far surpasses anyone else I have ever met.
I am writing this, so that if you don't have mentor, you might consider asking the Lord to send you just the right person. When your mentor comes along there will be no mistaking it! It seems like every time I have a question, Kay seems to have the most Spirit led answers. God is so good!
So how about you? Do you have a mentor? If not, would you please consider praying about this? You will be blessed, and your life will never be the same!
Now that I have crossed over the "40" bridge, maybe I should consider becoming someone else's mentor :)
What's your mentor story? |

In order to be enriched by a mentor, we have to take a position of humility and receive one. That in itself is a good thing. I've had several mentors through the years and bless God continually for their input into my life. Just now I don't have one and am asking God to supply what is missing. I do have a prayer partner and that helps. Thanks for sharing. People need to know the blessings of mentoring and being mentored. |

| I have three: a nun, a friar, and a deacon. They are all quite wonderful and I thank God that they are in my life. |

DarkRadiance, that sounds like the beginning of a great joke! Did you hear the one about the nun, the friar, and the deacon? or A nun, a friar, and a deacon were walking into a bar . . .
Good personal story, Sue, and great pic! |

| I agree that having a mentor is a wonderful thing in our walk with Christ. I do have one, actually more than one, and I am so thankful for these ladies! |

I'm so glad you posted this Sue. My first mentor was an older sister in college, and most recently my small group leader. Mentor's are the greatest! Jamie has terrific finger form, btw! Somewhere in my closet, I have the exact same picture of me 20 years ago at my piano, with my piano teacher, Mrs. Holmberg. :) We had that same piano light too. Is that a Kawaii? |
