26:18 And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
26:19 And Isaac's servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
26:20 And the herdmen of Gerar did strive with Isaac's herdmen, saying, The water [is] ours: and he called the name of the well Esek; because they strove with him.
26:21 And they digged another well, and strove for that also: and he called the name of it Sitnah.
26:22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said,
For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.
There are seasons of our lives that are full of struggle. The interesting thing about the text above is that Isaac laboured to dig a well that fully belonged to him. But enemies began to fight him over something that he had a right to. How many of us have had to "fight" over things that we have a right to; things that we are entitled to?
Reasonable levels of Joy, peace, and contentment are wells of life in our lives. It fully belongs to us, and we have a right to it. Other things like prosperity or health come to mind. But it seems like some seasons bring such a warfare for even the most reasonable things.
There is great encouragement in the above passage, however. The scripture is alive with God's Hope for a new day. Isaac digs and finds well of springing water. But there were bands of contentous Phillistinian herdmen at Gerar who gave Isaac quite a battle over what he was entitled to. Because of the fight, Isaac names the place Esek, which means strife.
But the amazing thing about this scenario is that Isaac just simply moved on. He moved on from the midst of the strife.
Isaac realized that The hand of God's Blessing was on him and not the place, and he didn't have to fight over anything. He showed his faith by moving on and digging again.
He encounters similar conflict in the next place, which he names Sitnah, meaning Opposition.
But MyChurch brethren (& sistren), he moved on from that place as well.
We can learn a tremendous lesson from Isaac. He moved on, and he didn't let an enemy waste his time in Strife and Opposition. If we can have the faith to go forward, we will leave Strife and Opposition for good.
26:22 And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth;
and he said, For now the LORD hath made room for us,
and we shall be fruitful in the land.
Finally he leaves Strife and Opposition to find another well....;
another well, without struggling to obtain it.
Freinds, there is a difference between struggling to obtain what you are entitled to and
receiving what's yours without strain and effort.
This is God's Favor. Isaac says, "..now the LORD hath made room for us..".
In other words, he saying "the reason that I don't have to fight for this is because God is in charge of it"!
What a blessing it is to know the difference between struggle and simply obtaining.
fellow brothers and sisters, I believe that we will walk in the specific things that God has made room for. We will be fruitful in the land! By faith, let's make this new year a year of fruit!
Happy New Year, & God Bless,
Benjamin
