When I was a child all my sisters had birthday parties except me. My Mom told me "No one will come to a party the day after Christmas" she went on to say, "No one had money for a gift the day after Christmas" so I was left to have ice cream and cake with the three sisters and sometimes cousins. As I grew up it was the same thing, ice cream and cake with my family. In December 2000, I was turning fifty and wanted to have this big party. I planned, shopped, sent out invitations and the worst happened. After a major snow storm a hugh rain came and we had over three feet of water in the basement family room. I cancelled my party and was surprised with a Birthday dinner at Timbuktu.
Yesterday, December 26, 2008 was my 58th Birthday and I gave myself a party and guess what? People came. It was more than ice cream and cake with my sisters, I played music from the 60's and 70's and yes I even sang.. Woooo Hoooo. I want to take this time to thank my family and friends for coming to my party.
Last night after all my family had left, I went back and read all my Birthday comments from MyChurch family and was overwhelmed by the greetings. It truly Blessed my Heart. I am going to take this time to thank each and everyone of you.......HERE GOES.....

Happy Belated dear sister. I missed that somehow. My birthday is the day after Halloween and I shared it with a cousin born just hours after me. It was always special to me for that reason. I like your attitude of throwing your own party. It is a celebration of our parents as well, especially our moms who brought us forth in pain. Be very blessed and see you on time for 59. |

My mom was different from yours, because her dad had a Dec 26th birthday, too (happy belated birthday!) and she'd seen it get underplayed, and didn't want me to suffer that way (mine is 12/31, a week after Christmas). I so appreciate her care and concern that way and am sorry your mom didn't get that you needed that special day to be yours, too. One year for my grandfather they decided to celebrate his birthday in the summer instead, but unfortunatlely, everyone forgot (this was before my time!) and didn't remember until they'd missed the real and the substitute days and the next birthday came around- oops/ow! :-( My mom remembered/reminded us of his birthday this year- 20 years since his death and he'd have been 97!
