We must not forget that God has given man "free-will" to choose; therefore, He will not make any man to do that which he does not desire to do.  However, He does allows us to get to a place in our personal circumstance where we have no other choice (if we wish to have Life with Him) but to turn our hearts to trust and obey Him.

In other words; God causes (or allows) adverse circumstances; but, the choice we take in our circumstances is our's alone to make.  Therefore, it is a danger to think that times are going to get better because we are believing God to change things!!  Jesus has given His Body that "authority" and "Power" - by our believing and obedience to His Voice and His Word (Deuteronomy 28:1&2).

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

HSPM:  Good point.  Things may not get better, but we, with our free will and the Holy Spirit's help, can make ourselves better!

Pastor Simms. That story reminded me of a sermon I heard when I was living in Florida from Rev. Mary Tumpkin at the Universal Truth Center in Miami Gardens.  She was talking about a banquet she went to for a retired school administrator and how people gave words of honor towards this person.  During the course of the banquet all she was able to hear how this person was the same and never changed their approach on issues during their 30+ years of service.  In other words, during all that time, the person never evolved or grew in terms of their approach to problems which Rev. Mary called it out as "spiritual immaturity".  Sometimes, even as Christians we grow comfortable in certain situations and refuse to go outside the borders.  If we look at Jesus Christ and how he was uncomfortable in His flesh of dying, but he approached the Lord in prayer and got his answer that ,"Your Will is My Will".   We have to be willing in 2009 to step outside of just doing the status quo, "going to church, doing events and heading home".  With all the economic uncertainties going on this is an opportunity for the body of Christ to shine and show resilence.  2009 is the time for the body to shine!

Have you ever noticed that in the world, those who have been successful needed no-one to motivate them?  Prosperous people are "self-motivated"; also, they are committed and true to their commitment - no matter the circumstances.  What prosperous people are not - is lazy and whiners, expecting others to do for them what they need, and can, do for them-selves; they are disciplined!!!

And that is what true "Christians" are - as "Disciples of Christ".  And so, since we are (A) "disciplined" and (B) "committed" - we need no motivation from others.
