This is a good word Michael, it is my belief that nothing divides friends, neighbors, the body, marriages and families like gossip does...there is no way around the fact that it is a destructive practice that tears down instead of building up...

This is one of those words that is hard for everyone to listen to because we all have engaged in it at some point, most of us esp women have to make a concerted effort to stay away from this practice...

It goes right along with if you don't have anything nice to day don't say it at all....

Great WORD!

A great word :0) Now if I can just not be "snide" in comedic terms I would fair better :0) I am constantly reminding myself that my tongue is a weapon- sharper than a two edged sword and so often I fail in using the way God would have me to use it :0(

Your post is a great reminder for the day!

It's nice to see a blog about a sin that is common among believers [rather than one about the sins of people who are sinners :-)].  It seems to me that we all tend to think of gossip as something others do.  When we are talking about someone we think it's about the truth.  :-)  I'm thinking that one of the sure indicators would be whether what we are saying is edifying [builds up] or not.

At the same time even this blog itself edifies by tearing down thoughts and reasoning that are not in line with who we are in Christ.  The point being that a word can have bite and still be edifying.  :-)  Faithful are the wounds of a friend, the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.  :-D

Craig where do you get stuff like this:? Faithful are the wounds of a friend, the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. (OK, that is proverbs right?)

And remember when you said something to the effect of:  If you don't love yourself, please don't love me!

Some of the stuff you say never escapes me!  Really cool...Lori

Yes Lori.

First a great resource (there might be better, if so let me know!): BibleGateway.com: A searchable online Bible.

Then searching for "Faithful wounds" yields: Proverbs 27:6.  :-)

The other came via something that the Lord spoke to from one of Andrew Doss' blog's.  Also last night the teaching included some statements about John 3:16.  The Lord told me: You have no right to hate yourself (I had been reading Luke 14 especially verse 26 and it had jump out at me that we are to hate our life not our self).  We are to love the "New" Creation we are in Christ...the Old man is dead!

Some of the stuff you say never escapes me!  Really cool...Lori

Well, it doesn't escape me either because it was given me I didn't just come up with it.  :-)  You know, a rhema.  So I have nothing to boast about, that's for sure!  :-)  At the same time people usually look at me wierd when I say stuff like "Yeah, that really is awesome! That came to me hot off the press!"  It reveals that they tend to think of every thought that the have as being their own...so they don't understand.  ;-)

Blessings!

Haha!  God taught me this through a 16 year old kid back when I was doing missions with Harvest youth missions, and I'd been saved maybe six months, and we were a team going door to door, inviting ppl to our "show."  I made a comment about something I suspected regarding someone at one of the houses, and this 'kid' says to me, "Would you say that to his face?" And I said, "Probably not." And he says, "Then you probably shouldn't be saying it at all." And I never ever forgot that.
