I've blogged about Cary Stanley before. Cary created an awesome social networking portal for the River Church called The Reef He developed it in about a year... by himself... while working full-time... and while getting his Master's Degree. He's a phenomenally talented engineer. Which is why I recruited him so heavily. Joe Kraus (founder of Jotspot and Excite) always tells startups to hire slow and fire fast. We interviewed Cary (and Cary interviewed us) for about a month. Both parties were very excited at the thought of working together. So after lots of meetings, technical dumps, and prayer, Cary gave us the thumbs up about a week ago. And he told his Cisco managers today (who obviously tried to aggressively coerce him to stay longer) I've told Cary this personally. I'm completely ecstatic that he will be on our team full-time. He was actually working part-time for us for the past month or so. I expect Cary to make a big impact to this company - our vision, our design, our processes, our strategies, our dynamics, and our partnerships. Cary is taking a risk with us. Leaving behind a Silicon Valley blue chip (like we all did) and taking a gamble on a meaningful project. Its not easy to walk away from a 6-digit salary with a nice office, benefits, and job security. But we'd rather try to change the world :) |
