My Friend Abigail Posts This Bulletin "So, I Guess The Abortion Debate Has Started..."

If everyones posting anti-abortion bulletins, Im posting my own view. [too anyone who has no clue what im talking about, look through some bulletins, you'll find it.]

No, I dont have flashy photos of rare occurences, and for some reason the bloody results of back alley abortions dont seem to be as popular as late term abortions. And I dont belive in late term abortions. But they dont give an fair representation.

About the whole "wealthy women statement":
The abortion rate among women living below the federal poverty level ($9,570 for a single woman with no children) is more than four times that of women above 300% of the poverty level (44 vs. 10 abortions per 1,000 women).

On average, women give four reasons for choosing abortion. Three-fourths of women cite concern for or responsibility to other individuals three-fourths say they cannot afford a child.

And if it's the pictures that are bothering you, 88% of abortions occurr in the first twelve weeks. The cerebral cortex, which coordinates perception and thought, is not yet developed. In most places you can't get an abortion very much past that unless there is a very serious question about the health of the mother and fetus.

Abortion was criminalized throughout the U.S. between the late 1800s and 1973. But during that time, millions of women sought and obtained abortions anyway.
Of these, tens upon tens of thousands died from illegal abortions or complications arising from them. One 1932 study estimated that illegal abortions or complications from them were the cause of death for 15,000 women each year. Current, more conservative, estimates of the death toll still stand at between 5,000 and 10,000 deaths per year.

I'm not saying we should all run out and get abortions. I'm saying that women should have reasonable control over their reproductive rights.

This first part I am going to direct to a beautiful young lady with whom I disagree with on almost everything--Abigail

I will disagree with you on this first: viewpoints are often changed. Also, see this from our point of view: we feel that an unborn baby is equal to a 5 year old child. If 1.3 million 5 year-olds were being killed legally each year, what would you do? Therefore we will not be silent.

Also, you say that "most" abortions happen during early pregnancy and that's the only kind you support. Well, what about the other abortions that DON'T happen in early pregnancy?

Okay, that's all I have to say directly to Abbey.

I will agree that KZ's pictures were misleading as far as representing abortion in it's total.

But what exactly makes an unborn fetus equal to a five-year old child?

And on a side note, pigs have an intelligence level of a 3 year old. They perceive the world around them, feel pain, and form family bonds. Unlike an eight week pregnancy which has no nerve endings and cannot perceive the world around it. But, it seems okay to string the pig up, kill it, and then make a sandwhich out of it.

A five-year old is a human that is not fully developed. They won't be until they're around 19 years old. Why is an unborn fetus any less a human? Because it's not fully developed? And you can say it can't feel it, or perceive the world around it. Well, if you were to secretly drug a person then murder them painlessly without them knowing what hit them, does it make it right? I don't see how that's any different.

And about the pig thing: though I could be obnoxious and say "I don't eat pigs" I realize it doesn't really matter what animal we're talking about. Here we couldn't really discuss this without getting into religion. I only think it's wrong to kill humans because I feel they're the only earthly beings with souls. But if we ARE just animals, then nature is all just about survival of the fittest. We're omnivores, so we eat meat. But that's just from one view. And, interestingly enough, God's plan originally was for everyone to be vegetarians. Until Adam and Eve sinned, no blood was shed of ANY creature. But that would lead us into some deep theological discussion that could take days, LOL.

I think that the problem with this debate is that your perception of the matter is more religious and mine isnt. And I'm not saying that its wrong for you to see things that way, I'm just saying that thats why we'll never agree.

But anyways my main view is that a woman who is alive, conscious, blah blah blah, should have the right to decide what she wants to do WELL within the first trimester because i dont believe that that is murder. And I dont think that until your in that situation, anyone can really know what its like.

I see were you're coming from. If I thought that abortion was murder, I'd be against it. But I don't, and I feel like I have scientific and ethical grounds on my side. And you have religious and ethical grounds on yours. So, I see what youre saying. I know what I'm saying. We'll never convince each other.

Anybody else have any thoughts?
