6:4 We were buried therefore with him through baptism unto death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. In the book "My Utmost For His Highest" it talks about this verse. It asks if I have had my "white funeral". I remember being five years old, kneeling beside my moms bed in Concord, NC. My mom lead me to Christ. I can tell where I was, how I felt, and what I did when we finished. I went running into the living room, all excited, to tell my dad and my brothers what just happened. On that day I had my "white funeral" with Christ. I laid my old life down and received my new life from Him. I was baptized a couple of weeks later at Landmark Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC. The day of my baptism was the act of laying my old body down with Christ in the tomb. Then as I was raised out of the water, my new life was received. This is symbolized the resurrection of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Since that time, I have had my share of doubts, fears and even turned my back on Christ for a while. My life was not worth living, until I went back to where I left Christ. I had to remember that Christ did not turn his back on me and never will, but I turned my back on Him. I prayed earnestly for forgiveness, and Jesus grant me forgiveness. Is it time for your 'white funeral"? No matter what you have done Jesus will forgive you of your sins and make you as pure and white as snow. But, you have to lay your life down at His feet and truly ask for forgiveness. Remember that you can give all your troubles to Christ. He can handle anything no matter how hard it is for you. You just have to lay your old life down and turn from your old ways of living. |
