Rising Mercury

It is not yet 10:00am and it is already 90°. The online forecast says we'll have a high of 104°, but the weather lady this morning warned of temps peaking at 109°. Either way, that is just plain hot. This is the time of year that tests our mettle here in lovely Bakersfield, Ca. This is what separates the men from the boys. It weeds out the riff-raff. It is what shows the rest of the world that we are strong. Stand tough, Bakersfield! We can get through this!!
Say a prayer for the senior citizens in our community, though. This heat has the potential to take lives and has done so in the past. Thanks.
...oh, boy, it's hot..... |

Hey Soozanne, we used to live in Redlands, CA, where 110 was common from July-Aug. I've been in Palm Springs (near Redlands) when the mercury hit 119. Wouldn't want to live there though. ~mike

It hit somewhere between 108° and 111° here today. Right now it is 106°. If I met the person who invented air conditioning right now, I'd kiss 'em square on the mouth!

I am with you on kisssing the genius who gave us air conditioning!! Just so everyone knows, the mercury on my back patio (in the shade....really cool LL Bean gizmo, does pressures, temp inside and out.....) was reading 115 degrees at 4pm this afternoon!! Right about the time PGE decided my neighborhood had used up our ration of energy!!! From 4-8pm it seems we only had power in 10 minute bursts. It is finally on for the past hour and half, and the mercury outside still says 103. I am SO GLAD I don't live where it gets hotter than this!!!! Can you just imagine what the lost will have to endure????

Wow! That is hot. I thought South Florida was hot. I feel for you. Try and take cold showers and it is probably best just to stay indoors in the air conditioning. =)
