Excellent point!!!!  Thanks for this blog!  I was one of those Christians that jumped into action first!  Didn't get the whole relationship with Jesus thing til much later.  I wish I had grown up in the church I'm in now....I would have been taught this lesson sooner!  But everything is God's timing.

YES Norm! A call to preparation! Excellent point. When we run out and DO something just b/c it seems like the right thing to do, w/o actually asking God if that's the thing He wants us to do, we are not followers! Worth a star!

Great blog, Norm!  So very true!!  I've had two similar-themed blogs floating around in my head; I think this is definitely something God wants us all to hear at this time.  Thanks for writing it!

God is good.  This morning at the Bible study I attend, a guy sitting down several tables from us came up to me while we were in the fellowship portion and out of nowhere repeated the thoughts above (we hadn't been talking about it even in the study, so it's not a case of him hearing us discuss it).

This is a great blog and great advice.  I try to pray for every new thing that I am asked to do, in the hopes that God will give me guidance as to whether it is something he really wants me to do...and then I ask for His strength to get it done.

And then it happened again.  I heard the same thing today while catching up on podcasts.  Brian, the Daily Audio Bible guy, said it on the July 3rd Podcast!

Catch up time!

Lora, how very true.  And what is time to God?

Hi Mike!

Jen, it definitely seems like it's something that's on everyone's mind.  Or maybe I'm just travelling in the same circles as you.

BFAM1!  I didn't plagarize a story this time.  You should be proud.  I appreciate the compliment (and the star)

Deb... Sound advice as well.

Such an important point, Norm!  Great post!  There are many "jobs" we can do in the church with that early zeal, while we are studying and growing, but it is an oft made mistake of the church to place new Christians into teaching and leadership positions too early before they have had time to establish that relationship.  And it's truly the church's fault, because people can't be expected to know they need to grow.  They are used to being leaders in society, and they don't yet comprehend how the Christian journey is different.  For example, all of us reading this blog think you wrote this about other people besides us!    :)

And after I was done writing it I found it was as good of a reminder for myself as I'm guessing it is for anyone else.

I think one very important part to consider is that it takes some people (myself included) far too long to realize that there is no task, no job that either is going to pay back Christ for his sacrifice, or make us more deserving of it.  The only way we can find that out is by doing "nothing" and finding He loves us no less.

So so true. and I know this post is for ME. Our relationship with the father is so very important.  By not having that relationship and being prepared when our time comes we can fizzle out like a firecracker that is quarter full.  God is faithful to see his word completed no matter what. We can operate at half power within Gods move, or we can be in the fullness of what God wants us to be when we are truly mature and connected to the vine.

Norm, I especially like your 7/7 comment. I'm sure that's been said a million times, just maybe not quite like that. I always love hearing a new perspective, it keeps things fresh.

bfam1, and it's clear to me that God put YOU on earth to star your dad's blogs!  (am I right?)

Mike: Considering bfam1 isn't a blood relative, I would go with a no there if I didn't have to worry about being argumentative.

BFAM1: The tie between is thicker than blood!  (Maybe someday we should explain yours and BFAM2's initials. ;) )

Mike, if you go here you'll see a picture of BFAM1 and BFAM2.  BFAM1 is older by about 25 minutes, hence, being BFAM1!

You'll be able to tell which one is older just by looking at the picture. :)

Fabulous post Norm.

I had actually never thought of 'listening' as a call to action.  But you're absolutely right.. it's perhaps one of the best ways we can stay in tune with what God is doing in our lives.

The wind listened to Jesus, will I listen today and find perfect peace.

Heb 3:15 Then while it is [still] called Today, if you would hear His voice {and} when you hear it, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion [in the desert, when the people provoked and irritated and embittered God against them].

Heb 4:1 THEREFORE, WHILE the promise of entering His rest still holds {and} is offered [today], let us be afraid [to distrust it], lest any of you should think he has come too late {and} has come short of [reaching] it.

Song 2:4 He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love [for love waved as a protecting and comforting banner over my head when I was near him].

Luke 10:38 Now while they were on their way, it occurred that Jesus entered a certain village, and a woman named Martha received {and} welcomed Him into her house.

Luke 10:39 And she had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord's feet and was listening to His teaching.

Luke 10:40 But Martha [overly occupied and too busy] was distracted with much serving; and she came up to Him and said, Lord, is it nothing to You that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me [to lend a hand and do her part along with me]!

Luke 10:41 But the Lord replied to her by saying, Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;

Luke 10:42 There is need of only one {or but a few things.} Mary has chosen the good portion [that which is to her advantage], which shall not be taken away from her.  Is 55:1 WAIT {and} listen, everyone who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy [priceless, spiritual] wine and milk without money and without price [simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessing].Is 55:2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness [the profuseness of spiritual joy].Is 55:3 Incline your ear [submit and consent to the divine will] and come to Me; hear, and your soul will revive; and I will make an everlasting covenant {or} league with you, even the sure mercy (kindness, goodwill, and compassion) promised to David.

Heb 4:7 Again He sets a definite day, [a new] Today, [and gives another opportunity of securing that rest] saying through David after so long a time in the words already quoted, Today, if you would hear His voice {and} when you hear it, do not harden your hearts.

Ex 32:29 And Moses said [to the Levites, By your obedience to God's command] you have consecrated yourselves today [as priests] to the Lord, each man [at the cost of being] against his own son and his own brother, that the Lord may restore {and} bestow His blessing upon {you} this day.

Makes me think of how Jesus called His disciples to BE with Him.  He is faithful to "make us" fishers of men.  Good thoughts Norm & a good reminder for someone who has alot of irons in the fire so to speak right now.

Amen!  That is nothing but the truth, and let me tell you, I needed to hear that straight from God.  You know, its amazing how God will speak to you so clearly.  God is so near and so real that it scares me sometimes.  The best thing I love about Him-which, I have been seriously committed to ministry for 3 years straight now, almost 4 and I am 21 years old-is that He is so infinate that it will take us FOREVER TO REALLY GET TO KNOW HIM.  I beat myself up every day thinking that I know how God will react to my situations and the decisions I make. I need to just be still and know that God had ordained my life before I was born, and like you said, He knows the plans He has for me-He holds my hand, so I dont need to wrry about what will come tomorrow.  I was reading Matt Chpt 6 this morning and it was telling me not to worry about things...you know...God is so near.  HE IS SO NEAR and I am thankful that a HOLY GOD has time to worry about me-little old me. HALLELUJAH!!!
