I get some flack sometimes for talking about how much power lies within our confessions. Let me say that I understand where you are coming from on that. The so-called "Word Of Faith" movement really put a bad taste in some peoples mouths and took the truths in that regard way too far.
But you don't have to look very deep into the word of God to conclude that is a very real and very spiritual connection between what's in our hearts and what's on our tongues. I don't want to go in to a great of of detail right now trying to explain this point. There are a plethora of scriptures I could quote and examples I could give. But the truth of the matter is that there really is life and death in the power of the tongue.
I have spent a considerable amount of time on this topic over the past couple of years. Considering that God called things that be not as though they were, I was for a long time, under the impression that I could do the same.. And, to a certain degree I still do. But only now my belief is that we can speak of those things that are real in the spirit realm, although they seem not, and through that releasing we can bring them to pass. That is somewhat different from my previous beliefs. In others words, we are calling those things that be, into our realm so that we can see.
Without getting too far gone on an explanation of all that I ask you to consider how you even got saved. You believed in your heart then confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. You called something that you could not see into being. It was really there the entire time. Jesus didn't die for you the moment you spoke those words, He died way in advance.
Likewise, the provisions for your life have already been made. It is only when you believe them abundantly in your heart, and then confess them with your mouth that you will see them come to pass.
The heart is connected to the tongue.
Faith speaks. In fact, speaking is one of the principles of faith. Faith works by a few different principles. Faith works by love, and faith works by law. As in the law of gravity or the law of aerodynamics. Whatever is in your heart is going to come out of your mouth eventually.
I would really like to expand on this blog but also want to keep it short. Having said that, let me say that when we speak what is in the word, which is already in existence, then we put faith in action to the truth that already exists. We speak of those things that are in the Spirit and that assists in bringing them to our physical and soulish realms.
OK, so that really didn't tell you much that you didn't already know. But I back up what I am saying with a test. Following is a video which contains some positive confessions taken directly from the word of God. I challenge you to take the time to not only watch the video, but to actually and verbally speak the words out loud and with authority as they appear. I don't believe you can perform this exercise without feeling something rise up within your spirit.
See, speaking confessions doesn't change God's will or cause Him to love us any more than He already does, but it does open our heart to be more receptive of Him. In other words, it programs our spirit for success.
So again, I present this challenge. Observe the video while speaking out loud the words contained therein and then tell me, honestly whether this lit something within you or not.
I can this say this; speaking these same exact confessions is what helped to springboard me out of a life of addiction and into the truth that God loves me.
I realize that the speed which I created this video makes it a little difficult to speak some of the longer confessions. You may have to pause for some of them. Sorry.
All that the Lord has in His Word, the Bible, is mine. I am an heir to the King. I also do not believe in name-it, claim-it theology, but by the things evedent in my walk with Christ as He has shown me. I have seen people be healed and some not. I have seen the power behind anointing with oil. It is finally God's will of what happens and that is well with me. I do believe in the divine power of His word and live my life by it.
Any part of God's word presented to me is quickened somewhere in my heart due to the Holy Spirit in me saying, "hey, I like that"! Also, as I read the words in the video, my spirit became stronger and more confident as the reminders are good for us.
Dial up stinks. So no go with the video. But there is power in our words, for sure. I have a bunch of stories, but I'll save my breath. God's Word is powerful if He spoke the world into existence. Did you know that they discovered that atoms are actually composed of sound? so there you go. If we speak trash, we feel like it. If we speak good stuff, we feel good. It's when someone is down, and say, mourning, and we go and be insensitive and rebuke them or whatever. I am going to write a blog soon enough on such things. But it's like if you got faith, have it to yourself and be sensitive to those "weaker."
So yeah; name it claim it works to a degree, but it can also backfire when covetousness creeps in...if you allow it. But they were on to something....
Amen Cheryl, that's what speaking these confessions does for me. It keeps me in remembrance of who I am in Christ.
Lara, sorry about the whole dial-up thing and I look forward to reading your future blog.
I had posted these same confessions quite some time ago. I am including a link below to the written version in case you may be interested. I have these printed out on a long scroll that is taped to my pantry door and almost every time I walk into the kitchen I randomly pick a few to speak over my life.
You da man, baby! That video was great! You did that? It was beautiful! I'm so glad you put the "In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths" verse in there. It's one o' my faves.
Thank God for the pause button, though. My speed reading skills are a little rusty :-)
