I NEED YOUR HELP!

I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP -TAKE A MOMENT AND READ WHAT IS ON GOD'S HEART.
In the late 8o's I met a man named Rev. Rob Schenck who came to my church to talk about Faithwalk.Rob had walked from Buffalo ,NY to Mexico to raise money for children living in Garbage dumps there.The story so inspired me that I clearly heard God say to me "Go". Rob kept speaking. A lady behind me leaned forward and whispered in my ear ,"You're going to go".When Rob finished I told him I am supposed to go to Mexico with you. My pastor and he were alumni from Elim Bible Institute so we were able to get this sought after speaker to our humble church of worshipping saints. We prayed about it and sure enough the spirit was clear - young Dan would go to Mexico. This year will mark the 20th anniversary of that trip. While I was there God told me to join Rob on his second "faithwalk". I told Rob this ,we prayed about it and sure enough I was going to walk. But it never happened. Why? I don't know. Maybe God only needed me to be willing to sacrifice -like Abram. Nearly twenty years later and I am walking IN Vegas to get to my car which has been towed to a ghetto by my own Hotel.(those of you who know me know I went there to work for three months this past summer)...I walked through whats known as a "tent city" .A phenomenon in this country of homeless people who live in tents on the streets like being in line for concert tickets only no concert. They got to me and I have thought of them ever since. I'm just an unknown Christian Comedian,what can I do ? Well you know , I can still walk.Maybe not as good as the 20 mile speed marches in the infantry when I was 18 but I can still walk. I was meditating in prayer on the first of the year.The kids with family and time to reflect on the past year as well as plan for the new one. I asked The Lord what He would have me do in 2009 and he said " GO". So now I am in training because on September 1st 2009 I am going to walk from a rescue mission in Smithfield ,NC to the rescue mission in Las Vegas ,NV.
2400 miles !!!!! 3 mph for ten hours a day .
I will stop @ rescue missions in the larger towns along the way and stay overnight. The event will draw national media attention every time I reach a milestone. This will raise awareness. With corporate sponsors we'll raise money. The idea that I will do something selfless for one of the most hedonistic towns in the country - that someone could love them in Sin city is almost absurd. The Lord does do weird things but He never does things weird. So pray and spread the word !! I returned from the conference in Louisville encouraged and now have an opportunity to go to meet the network news groups along with CBN and CNN
in NYC if I can raise the funds- so please pray about that. Also i may ghave convinced a personal trainer to give me his time and use of his full service fitness center to train. In June I HAVE to begin marathon training. Strength ,stamina.endurance and nutrition to get ready for the walk.
Also we are praying about the RV- we have a backup but a local rental RV for thetrip will be better. All funds raised by the corporate sponsors will go to the rescue missions and until we reach what we need for the trip ,fuel and small salaries of my team members, we will raise money from local business leaders.
If I am coming through your area we are setting up speaking engagements on a love offering basis - feel to contact us about having me at your church.

Fear and trepidation my brother. I don't WANT to do this . I did when God first asked but I was thin and had better feet. I have to obey the Voice of The Lord.
I know this will draw attention to the plight of people living in tents. Never underestimate the media when they have a story that is constant. |

Someone else said that while were doing the Forest Gump comparison- I dont think people will join me too far but they might walk ten miles with me. Whatever God puts on their hearts-
We will only need funds in the initial training stages for living expenses - once we set foot to pavement we hope that the corporate sponsors will take care of the real expenses |

Panda- You are so right there ARE a lot of nice people on the streets. I saw a lady living in a small pup tent - she came out and was doing her layundry,.. I knew I had to do something but didn't know what The Lord was planning yet.
Higherground- People will be able to send funds on a paypal site - so if they want to donate proceeds from their yard sale thats Great.Those funds will be used to help me while I train 4 hours a day.Ultimately , the real money will be the corporate sponsors and we have made a great contact today with the ministry that can channel those funds so that there will be complete accountability. Great idea. |

While my husband and I were separated...by the way I am back with him....I owned two homes...one my son lived in and one my husband lived in. I made a decent paycheck and moved from husbands house to sons. I craved some alone time and opted to move out. I didn't want to lock into a lease because I didn't know what I was doing yet so rented a camper. It was about 134 a week and way out of the way for any busline, driving an hour to work. Hotels by the week ran over 225 so it was a better deal for me. I was able to do it but of course it was still not the best arrangement. Many men lived there, separated or folks who lost thier homes renting campers year round. If you are homeless, you can't just go an hour away and rent a place cheaper, you have to work or if you get a job what is going to pay you enough to rent at over a thousand a month? It is truly an impossible place to be in. We need to be figuring out laws to help in this and housing for folks with small children, just nearly impossible to find safe affordable housing. Need to bring it front center for answers. Prayer is key and prayer and action like yours makes even more sense. I want to be a part of this. I am asking God how. |

The needs of the walk are at present:
Publicist, to help with getting the word out (can be done from anywhere)
EMT, for the actual walk - someone to travel for three months and keep an eye on me ,healthwise.
Funds, in a pay pal account to help with expenses of training before the walk
(corporate sponsors are the REAL money)
Driver- someone has to drive the RV behind me
RV-donated or loaned for three months-must be reliable |

how many times you are here mike or me? lol i had to share that youtube video about the tears of saints because the homelessness message is so touching with the economy the way it is, lots of folks could lose their homes that never faced the thought of it before and what are we as a church going to do about that? me and hubby have a mother in law suite and he has a friend who has been renting a room for 300 a month. jim said he offered it to dick so he can stay here without cost...dick is disabled and alcoholic. it has a private entrance and i used it mainly as a retreat, but wholeheartedly agreed. jim said dick was his own God project, what he is supposed to do. dick lost his son in the 9-11 deal, his only son had gotten a job as a message runner for some company there and was in the WTC when it fell. he says he believes in God but i see no fruit. been talking to him for years jim may be the one to lead him on in the fold and i am thanking the Lord we have a space used to house someone who truly didn't have a "home" |

WOW, way cool on the RV. Yep a wiccan, Heather and I met over Flora Flip where we swap plants and she and I don't shove each other on our faiths. She once said she would visit my blogs because I wrote them but never did. Then I sent her the link to yours and she called me from her kids bus stop telling how cool it is. I told her I almost didn't send it to her because of my agreement not to preach at her. She said she was not offended because it was about the homeless. She is 29 and one of the coolest on this planet and I would love to have her in the Kingdom because I know the truth. I was studying white witchcraft when a teen. Got saved at 19. I used to love bewitched too. Just saw Elizabeth Montgomery's real son get a room makeover on Home and Garden TV. I looked her up online to see when she died. 31000 miles on it and small enough to meet our needs - We are travelling through small towns so clearance issues around railroad underpasses.
The only cost to us is the insurance which we would have under any circumstance anyway.

| I have a heart for the homeless, too. One of my best friends was homeless for much of his life. He is precious to us and currently lives with my elderly mom. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior several years back and received much of his knowledge about the Holy Bible while living at the Salvation Army and attending bible studies there. I will pray for the King of Cheese-Dan and look forward to hearing about the progress. |

Go Jolly- you're soooo ruight. The salvation Army does great work getting people rehabilitated.And thats what we talk about when we talk of Rescue Missions. Driven by the great commission they become the true"light in the darkness" the "salt of the earth" Jesus said.They dont just feed them the teach them to cook ,as it were.
I just got off my treadmill and as I approach 2 straight hours ,.. soon it will be time to just plain hoof it the ole fashioned way. |

Were working on That Margo- At times people will want to join me for five or even ten miles.When the Reverend Schenck walked to Mexico from NY in the 80's (partial inspiration for this one) he was met by people at different times..
There is possibility our new route will have me drop down and cut across Georgia but I can't be sure.

2/25***** update
Made contact with The Raleigh Rescue Mission today. The work they do reminds me why I am doing this.
They not only feed the poor and cities homeless. But their"Clients" are offered a variety of health and nmedical services they couldn't other wise get .The live in clients are able to re-habilitate back into the system by getting a GED ,Finding a Job and eventually a place to live on their own.
Its all about restoring dignity!
They are officially the first stop from the rescue mission in Smithfield ,NC AND they are very excited about the whole thing adding increased credibility to the "mission" at hand.
When I arrive in Las Vegas - the real Vegas - the people there are planning all sorts of shindigs to raise awareness and even more funds.

I would love that on any blog but this one... I did do a blog about just being good to other bloggers here. This one I am hoping people will come to for the updates..leave lots of comments and I'm not worried about how many stars there are because people are taking this to there friends ,family and churches.Some have tried contacting media outlets like Bill O'Reilly.
I used to get excited about how many read - comments -starts etc until someone pointed out why we do this AND someone pointed out that the number of "reads" are people checking in- so I no longer worry about people reading who dont comment...BUT HOW ABOUT THIS...

| First day on the job @ The Raleigh Rickshaw company. I am not getting enough speaking engagements having been out of work since October..so I saw this job riding a bike /rickshaw in Downtown Raleigh that I could train for the walk AND get paid ... man am I sore...all over. |

Where is everyone?
Things are going well and God is opening many doors - My Pastor has written a wonderful letter of endorsement allowing me the credibility needed for speaking engagements locally. AS a comic I get booked for all sorts of gigs but the Walk is another story- we want to go where God is leading , sing ,laugh and touch hearts.
It has been 2 decades since I charged a "love offering" But God is leading and we want to follow so love offering it will be. |

M and L- Yes! I get paid a high dollar these days as a comic and the ole "love offering" had very little offering and a lot less love back in the day HOWEVER, ...The Lord has instructed me to go wherever - whenever about the walk - so small churches who otherwise dont have a professional comic available to them can get me to come out for expenses plus L.O.( the expenses part is to keep me from incurring the cost of interstate air travel) but generally within driving distance of my home - the L.O. is sufficient.

Hey Dan, yes, just mom rushed to ER when she had only been to the doctor once since 1965. She is 71 and we thought she had a stroke. It was labyrinthitis or a Vertigo type thing. I drove three hours to Richmond Wednesday and three hours back tonight. Other than that, dealing with interviewing for a job with my company here in Hampton Roads area, and fighting pain still. I am thinking that this is nerve pain. I am going back to the dr on Tuesday and still don't know what they are willing to pay me to take a position here. Kinda in limbo currently. Small stressors I guess but dad is 109 lbs and three times hospitalized in Florida since Christmas so all rolled into one, keeping me praying. I will be fine. I am home for two days and back to Richmond. Peace and Love...juanita |

| That would be great !!! Anyone I can meet from here would be- I am doing a return visit to Minneapolis for a ministry I met through MYCHURCH last year ...only this time I am NOT going in February -- so no 26 below for me. |

So much going on Keep PRAYING for my family and I - The corporate sponsors are on the horizon but we need about 20,000 dollars to do it just on our end - this will come from the speaking engagements and from local businesses and their personal contributions.
I will be standing in public places - suti and Tie - and holding a cardboard sign like the people who need help - asking for opportunities to speak... (its called a publicity stunt becvause it draws publicity) Also,local Wal-mart is working with me this week on getting Big Wal-mart to help |

Yes thanks for asking ! I am not doing much stand-up once we strat in August so we needed to take a new direction.
We are building a site ABOUT the Faithwalk - but for now just use the blog site where the updates will be daily ..
