I absolutely hate looking for a new car. There are so many choices...which one rides best? Which one looks best? What color? New or used? Which one has the best gas mileage? Which one goes better in the snow?
My husband and I have just started looking for a new car. It isn't that I don't like the ones we have, but the two cars we have are both getting very high mileage on them, and since we own our own business, and part of my responsibility is making deliveries, and I have to drive quite a bit, I really, really want to have a reliable car, especially in the winter. I do not handle car problems well. I think it is one of the millions of lessons God has given me in patience. Both of these cars have had several things go wrong with them in the last year. We are only trading one in, the one with the highest mileage, and keeping the other one. We have looked at several options, test driven one...as I said, we have just started...and already the road ahead looks long and confusing!
I want something with all wheel drive so I can drive better in the snow. That cuts the options down. I want something that has decent gas mileage, which makes the list even slimmer. I don't want to be paying for it for the next ten years...so that probably means used.
I really don't want to buy a new car, but it is one of those things that is now becoming necessary. Vehicles don't appreciate in value either, so you can guess what a dealer wants to give us for our (almost 200,000 miles) car. So then we are faced with paying for it, so we are looking for the best value for the least cost...who isn't?
So, I am singing the new car blues, and I am sure many of you know the song well. Just thought I would share my experience with you, and I would love to hear any interesting stories about car buying that you might have!!! Anyone ever find a great value? Anyone ever get a "lemon"? Let me know your thoughts...

Pray hard. Sincerily You want to make sure you get the one He has for you.I really mean it.It is a trying time looking for a car I can stand to do it myself it's a real test to get through it.You might also want to make sure you do a carfax check online and if possible get it checked out by a AAA certified shop. You can call AAA even if not a member or look up online and see the shops in your area who are certified, They will put it up on rack and do a through check on it and let you know what they think.Cost anywhere around 75 to 125. I hope this helps. All my love and His from above, Diana |

| Yep, agree w/Diana. Pray. Nothing cooler than the great feeling that God has provided for your transportation needs. I only did that with the last vehicle I bought 3-4 yrs ago, and have so appreciated it ever since. I'd also be willing to give it away if the Lord told me too. Had I gone out and bought what I saw as the best available vehicle, I would have only been serving myself (which I've done many times in the past). Yes, had one lemon -- a Mercury Sable station wagon. But I was so foolish in that transaction, let me tell you did I ever learn a few valuable lessons! (#1-pray, #2-proceed slowly, urgency is NEVER from God) ...Great blog Deb, love the topic! ~mike |

Diana, I have prayed, and we are taking things really slow. Of course, when you go to a dealer, they want to close the deal right now, but we aren't like that and never have been. The last car we got we bought at an auction, and I prayed about it, and it has been an excellent car. We put about 160,000 miles on it, and didn't pay that much for it! So, yes, I agree...prayer first...
Mike, That is a good point to remember...urgency is never from God. I get that feeling sometimes, and I know we just have to take it slow. Good advice! |
