| ALL YOU NEED |

31:33 But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
I will be their God. Christian, here is all you need. You want something that satisfies; isn't this enough? If you could pour this promise into a cup, wouldn't you say with David, "My cup overflows" (P. 23:5)? If God is your God, don't you have everything? Who can measure the full capacity of our wishes? But the immeasurable wealth of God exceeds it. Are you not complete when God is yours?
With God you have music fit for heaven, for He is the Maker of heaven. All the music of the sweetest instruments cannot compare to the melody of this sweet promise.
Dwell in the light of the Lord and let your soul be ravished with His love. Live up to your privileges and rejoice with unspeakable joy
Charles Spurgeon

| The important part here is living Torah. You seem to have skipped the part that said "I will write my LAW (Torah / Instructions) on their hearts" and THEN "I will be their Elohim" And notice the covenant is with Israel? Read John 14. v15"If you love me, you will obey what I command. (observe Torah) v21Whoever has my commands and obeys them (observe Torah), he is the one who loves me. v23 "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. (observe Torah) v24He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. (does NOT observe Torah). Read Deut 28 and 29. Heck, just flip back a few pages in Jeremiah. Jer 16:10 "And when you tell this people all these words, and they say to you, 'Why has the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? What is our iniquity? What is the sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?'
Jeremiah 16:11 then you shall say to them: 'Because your fathers have forsaken me, says the LORD, and have gone after other gods and have served and worshiped them, and have forsaken me and have not kept my law, (Torah)
Sorry, friend, you have missed the ENTIRE point of this passage and the theme of the scriptures in general. |

Mr. Morley, the assumption here is that we have God's laws written in our hearts. Once we realize we are all sinners and lost without Him, we will love Him and want to please Him. His instructions/law are summed up by Deuternomy 6:5-6 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart.
Jewish people believe that we are to follow 500+ rules in order to please Him. I lived in a kosher apartment for two years in college, and could not see how making sure I did not switch any light switches on Saturday could be necessary to please Him, but I did my best to honor what my roommate felt she needed to do to please Him (I normally went home Friday afternoon).
Jesus sets us free from the law, once we understand that the law was necessary in order to teach people how to treat each other and Him. Now that I am 42, my parents no longer require me to eat my vegetables before I can have a bedtime snack, even if it is probably still a good idea. |
