| Reminiscent of Zimbabwe |

When I read this verse today I immediately thought of those in Zimbabwe, who are currently suffering extreme hardship, brought on by a corrupt government. Our prayers are with you, brethren. As Peter says in verse 9 - rely not on yourselves but on God, because with Him all things are possible, and without Him you can do nothing. Paul also told the Philippians - I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. What encouragement these words are, what hope they bring. May the God of peace be with you at this time.
1:8 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of the affliction we experienced in Asia; for we were so utterly, unbearably crushed that we despaired of life itself. 1:9 Why, we felt that we had received the sentence of death; but that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead; |
