3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Quotation: “People today have a very dull sense of sin. When they are brought to account for their own failures, they blame their circumstances in life, the economic system, or something else, and do not admit any responsibility themselves.” –Toyohiko Kagawa
Motivation Talk: Is anything morally wrong nowadays? Is any behavior sinful? Are people’s behaviors merely the amoral results of their circumstances or heredity? Or are people personally responsible and accountable for their choices of behavior?
A person’s answer to these questions will determine whether he lives as a slave to his whims or as a victor over his self-destructive desires and tendencies. If nothing is morally wrong, then there are no guidelines for our behaviors — we have nothing to direct us but our personal feelings and opinions.
If our behaviors are the result of our circumstances and/or heredity, then we are not responsible for our actions. And we cannot correct, we cannot fix, what we are not responsible for. Thus we become pitiful victims to circumstances — tossed about by every self-destructive whim.
However if we are personally responsible for how we choose to behave, then we have the freedom to redirect our lives. If we choose to and if we will muster the moral courage, we can turn away from our self-destructive behaviors and live morally right!
If we choose to admit the personal responsibility for our sinful behavior and if we take action to turn away from our wrongful actions and thoughts, we will discover tremendous hope! Life can be wonderful if we will exercise the personal courage to slam dunk denial and to begin to hold ourselves to high moral standards of thought and conduct.

Brother Steve sin is still what it always was as defined in the Word of God...People just choose not to obey it....
3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

The word says that the letter of the law kills. If we live by the law we will continue to sin but if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us. As long as we are in these bodies we will sin. We do have a sin nature. The bottom line is choice. God gave us a free will and we can chose to or not to sin. Thank heaven for Jesus and His precious blood because we are now saints with a forgiving Father. Sin or the temptation to sin will always be with us even up until Sunday morning on the way to church. We can choose life or death...the power of the tongue, our thoughts, our minds, our souls...we have to continually give our lives to Christ daily and confess whatever causes us to stumble. Does He love us anyway? Yes, He gave His son for us to be free. We are not just an old sinner saved by grace but a saint who is tempted to sin and has an advocate with the Father. Amen.

Hi Steve. The problem is - we don't call sin, sin anymore. We just see it as having just a bit of a problem. So when is sin, sin? When it becomes a bit of a problem.

Of course this is plain jane human nature, eh? Look at Adam and Eve? Eve blamed the serpant, Adam basically blamed God with, "the woman YOU gave me made me do it!" lol And so it goes on and on, eh? Pass the buck. But anyways, God is awesome and can break any "curse" or "addiction" or whatever label is put on it. Jesus came for such! thanks for sharing this.

Although we have the knowledge of good and evil and can choose to do good or evil, living a godly life is impossible when it is done solely by man's will power. It just can't be done. But glory be to God, who has delivered us from the power of sin in Christ Jesus our Lord. Only in Him can we truly have a victiorious life, free from sin. God has giving us everything pertaining to life and godliness in Christ. We are to put to death the deeds of the flesh in Christ who has died for us; we are to live our life holy and acceptable unto God as living sacrifices; it is our reasonable service unto God.
6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with [him], that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Great blog Steve and great comments all. Sherry and JR together echo my own conversations with the Holy Spirit on the matter - not detracting from other comments. Alex |

Brother Steve, Sin is a separator between God and man. God said, in Isaiah that his ear weren't deaf, that he couldn't hear us and his hand wasn't too short that it could not reach down. But your sins have come between you and your God. We have allowed sin to be the dividing factor, for God cannot sin.
