23:33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. 23:35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided [him], saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God. 23:36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, 23:37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself. 23:38 And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. Super Sunday is not about a sporting event that millions of people watch yearly. Super Sunday is about the taking of the life of one that came to lay down his life for mankind. You see, Jesus had a foe that dates back to the beginning of creation, when God made the angels. His name was Lucifer a high arch angel, He had a plan to overthrow Almighty God. Lucifer was lifted up in his pride, thinking that he could ascend above the very throne of God.Lucifer had convinced a third of the angels, that he could overthrow God. Lucifer suffered great defeat, when he made war with God, he and those that followed him were cast out of God's heaven. Lucifer became known after his fall from grace as Satan. The importance in knowing this is to know that Satan wanted to get back at God. We find that God wanting to be worshipped decided that he would create a man in his own image. God formed man from the dust and breathed into him and made him a living soul.God said of this creation called man that he was very good, all else made by God was just good. God named this man Adam, God created a garden for Adam. God created a woman from Adam that he would not be alone.We know the story well, how that Satan came to tempt the woman that knew of a condition that God had placed on them not to eat of a certain tree. Satan wanted to destroy God's fellowship with man, little did he know that God had another plan that would offer man redemption. That plan was Jesus, we must understand that Jesus was God. Jesus was there in the beginning, Satan knew who he was. With this understanding God through the Holy Ghost begin to speak through men and inspired them to write about Jesus coming in flesh to redeem fallen man back to God.Isaiah spoke about this in the fifty third chapter.
53:2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him. 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 53:5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 53:7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Satan understood that his only way to defeat God was to stop Jesus from coming. Satan failed in that so in his back up plan, he decided that he would kill Jesus. The plan was to get Jesus in the grips of death, Satan closest friend for until Jesus and a few others that slip death's grip. Death had been an affective means of holding those that had crossed over. The text in Luke's gospel shows that Satan the god of this world by Adams fall, succeeded in getting Jesus put to death by the religious people of that time. Religious people still hate everything Jesus Christ was about all this keeping the commandment and just living right stuff. The Super Sunday came when Jesus defeated the forces of Satan that being death and hell and the grave. The angels told those looking for a corpse that he was risen, Jesus appeared to over five hundred people, before he ascended back into heaven. It truly was a Super Sunday, especially for us that know him as our Lord and Saviour. |
