Pastor Appleton spoke on Hebrews 1:1-4
v1 focused on the message (God's message to His people) v2 began focus on the messenger -- Jesus: He is God's heir, though whom God created the world v3 we are made in God's likeness, but Jesus alone is exactly God's image v4 only Jesus has the right and privilege of sitting at God's right hand
focus shift from the message to the messenger -- -- Jesus was far more than a prophet (a common attitude in the Jewish mind) -- Jesus was more than just a messenger (or a good teacher) historical evidence requires the acceptance that Jesus existed, but they say he was just a man -- in an attempt to diminish Jesus' teachings they have tried to diminish Jesus -- we need to be sharing the gosple, a true effort, and if rejected can "shake the dust off our feet" -- to share we must be prepared, be aware of the truth of who Jesus is (feet shod w/ the preparation of the gospel of peace) -- the world considers Christians to be ignorant and emotional, we must be able to reason with them |
